Mathematics
It has been a busy term in Mathematics for our students! We began the term looking at 2D and 3D shapes; developing our understanding of their properties and how we can classify them. The students thoroughly enjoyed creating 3D shape cities and making 2D shape faces.
We then spent some time learning about chance and data. The students learnt how to classify chance events, and how to determine the likelihood of an event occurring. They then collected data into tables and created column graphs to display their data.
We have finished off the term practicing tell the time; looking at analogue and digital clocks, reading the time and calculating elapsed time. The students enjoyed playing with clocks and working out how much time had passed during events.
Book Bash - Ahn Doh
On Tuesday 24th of June, the 3/4 students were lucky to virtually attend a Book Bash event. Our featured artist was Anh Do, a favourite among many of our students. Since lots of them enjoy reading his books, this was a fantastic opportunity.
We joined an online session organised by the State Library, where Anh Do answered student questions and shared how he develops his characters and storylines. He gave valuable insights into the process behind his popular books.
Anh was a lively and engaging speaker. He offered detailed advice on creating fictional characters and settings, keeping the students thoroughly entertained. We’re excited to see the characters our students will create using the tips and inspiration they gained from Anh’s talk.
Reminders
It is an expectation in Grade Three and Four, that students are reading for 20 minutes each night and recording their reading into their diary. Students can choose how they read: independently, to an adult, to a sibling, or even to a teddy or pet.
We are focusing on learning our times tables, and last term each student came home with a laminated times table chart. It is expected that students are practicing their times tables at home each night.
The Camp Compass Event is now live! Please make sure you read the event, and complete the required forms and payment by Sunday 10th August.
We wish everyone a safe, relaxing and warm holidays, and look forward to a busy Term Three!
