Communicating with the Year Two Team

When communicating with the Year Two team, please reach out via the below email addresses. Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact when requiring a discussion. You will usually see us outside the classrooms at the end of the day. This is the preferred time to catch us for a quick chat as we are focused on greeting the students before school.

Please also note that we have scheduled meetings at 3.45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

What has been happening in Maths this term?

Term Two maths has been a blast! 

As a level, we have explored a range of mathematical concepts, covering various curriculum areas.

We began the term exploring addition and subtraction. The students learnt and applied a range of strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems. This included part-part-whole, counting on, doubles, doubles +1, whole-part-part and subitizing. 

Some students were extended in addition by learning the split strategy.

The students spent two weeks learning about the features of 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional shapes. They also explored Flip, Slide, Turn and Location.

Patterns are Algebra!

We ended the term exploring patterns. The students have learnt that patterns come in many forms, and that they always repeat and have a code or rule.

We extended their understanding of patterns though Algebra. The students applied algebraic reasoning to help them understand and analyse patterns to find the rule.

The children could explain that an additive pattern of

 +2/+1/+2/+1 is the same as AA/B/AA/B

They represented these patterns using a variety of manipulatives such as unifix blocks.

          We want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to the students for their hard work over this first semester. They are well and truly Year Two students on their way to Year Three.

We have been thrilled to watch them mature and grow (both academically and in height). 

Thanks to the families who have been supportive of your children, and us as teachers.

 We know that lunchboxes, reading, clean uniforms, parent interviews, show and tell items and countless Compass 'to dos' don't get done without you.
