CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Sian Katsineris

We would like to warmly congratulate Sian Katsineris, who was invited to contribute to a special panel discussion at this year’s Melbourne Mathematics Conference, hosted by the Mathematics Association of Victoria.

As part of the inaugural Debating Mathematical Perspectives session, titled What truly matters most in mathematics education?, Sian joined a small group of educators, academics and students to engage in rich professional dialogue about the priorities shaping mathematics education today. The session placed student voice at the centre of the conversation and invited participants to explore, debate and reflect on what matters most in mathematics learning.

Sian represented Milgate with confidence, clarity and deep professional knowledge, speaking about her values in mathematics education and the way Milgate is continuing to strengthen mathematics teaching and learning while staying true to our identity as a PYP school. Her contribution was very well received, with many attendees congratulating her afterwards and commenting positively on both her presentation and Milgate’s approach to mathematics.

This was a wonderful opportunity to share the thoughtful work happening at Milgate with the broader education community. We are very proud of Sian for representing our school so positively and for contributing to such an important conversation about the future of mathematics education.

WELCOME TO COUNTRY CELEBRATION

On Friday 29th of May we came together as a school community to recognize National Reconciliation Week (NRW). We were proud to welcome Elder John Terrick to Milgate Primary School, who led the Welcome to Country ceremony and conversation to encourage our wider community to consider how each of us can take action and be ‘all in’, as the theme for this NRW promotes. Ganga Giri’s yidaki performance was a wonderful way to complete the ceremony, encouraging us to consider the sounds of nature and how art and culture are interconnected. While the conversation around NRW can be uncomfortable, as we recognise the truths of the past, it is important to consider how we as a community can move forward together on our journey towards reconciliation united as one.

Special thanks are extended to Kirsty Krumples for organising this important assembly and congratulations to our Cultural Leaders for being such wonderful hosts!

Year 6 Public Speaking

Over the past fortnight, all Year 6 students have participated in writing and presenting speeches as part of Milgate Primary School's inaugural House Public Speaking Competition.

Following a series of class-based presentations, a select group of students was chosen to represent their House in the final round of competition. The quality of the speeches was outstanding, with students confidently presenting on a wide range of engaging and thought-provoking topics. The finalists demonstrated exceptional preparation, poise and speaking skills.

Congratulations to Imogen Morris and Aybram Morani, who were unanimously selected as this year's winners. Imogen and Aybram will now go on to represent Milgate Primary School at the Rotary Club of Manningham Annual Primary School Speech Contest.

We congratulate all Year 6 students for their efforts and courage in participating, and we wish Imogen and Aybram every success in the next stage of competition.

80s TRIVIA NIGHT

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I don't know anything about the 1980s. Should I still come?

A: Absolutely. The '80s theme is just for atmosphere, music, and optional costumes. This is a general-knowledge trivia night, not a history exam. While there might be a couple of retro questions thrown in, you do not need any specialized '80s knowledge to participate, win, or have a great time.

Q: I don't have a full team of 10 people. Can I still book?

A: Yes. You can book any number of tickets—from a single ticket to a partial group. If you don't have a full table of 10, we will match you up with other members of our school community. It’s a fantastic, low-pressure way to meet new people.

Q: I’m terrible at trivia and hate staring at a blank piece of paper. How does it work?

A: Forget traditional trivia. There are no pens and no paper. We use wireless buzzers for a fast, interactive game.

  • Multiple Choice: The correct answer is always on the screen—you just have to pick it.
  • Speed Wins: Points are awarded for accuracy and how fast you hit the buzzer.
  • No Cheating: The strict time limit means nobody has time to secretly Google the answers.

Q: Do I have to dress up?

A: Only if you want to. Dressing in '80s attire, bringing '80s-themed food, or decorating your table is highly encouraged for maximum fun, but it is completely optional. Come as you are.

Q: What else is happening on the night besides trivia?

A: Plenty. Come prepared for great music, a lot of laughs, prizes, and auctions to bid on.

Q: When do tickets go sale?

A: Ticket sales will open before the end of Term 2. Lock the date in your calendar now, start rallying your friends, and stay tuned for the booking link!

CYBER SAFETY PROJECT INCUSRION

Today, our Year 4–6 students participated in a cyber safety incursion facilitated by the Cyber Safety Project. Trent engaged students through a range of authentic and interactive experiences and scenarios that supported their understanding of how to stay safe, respectful and mindful when online.

Following these sessions, students will reflect on their own online habits, including the amount of time they spend online, and consider the importance of being kind and respectful in digital spaces. They will also think about how their online interactions can impact others and explore strategies to make positive and responsible choices when using technology.
