Visual Arts
In the classroom this week...
Prep students will be continuing their work on ‘line’, this week creating a line sculpture hat. They will incorporate their knowledge of different types of lines and learn how to twist and fold coloured paper to make a 3D hat.
Grade 1 and 2 students will be looking at Indigenous symbols and how to draw in a circle from a middle starting point. They will be focussing on symmetry and repeated pattern.
Grade 3 and 4 students will be looking at Indigenous symbols and building on their knowledge of how to draw in a circle from a middle starting point. They will be focussing on symmetry, repeated pattern and telling a story through their symbols and markings.
Grade 5 students will be continuing their x-ray animal drawings. They will finish their scratch art design and illustrate the story of their animal’s adventures using their own symbols and markings.
Grade 6 students will be working with air dry clay, practising colouring and marbling their clay with textas, before marking it with patterns and designs, and finally manipulating it into coils and organic shapes.
Performing Arts
In the classroom...
Prep
Students will continue learning a dance inspired by the picture story book Can You Dance? by Sally Morgan. They will continue to learn an Acknowledgment of Country song and practise playing rhythms on percussion instruments. Students will also explore high and low sounds through vocal activities and singing.
Grade 1
Students will continue developing their understanding of rests in rhythm patterns using the rhythm syllable zaa. They will practise performing and creating rhythms that include both sound and silence, helping them build confidence in reading and performing rhythmic patterns.
Grade 2
Students will learn a song inspired by an ice cream van before composing their own ice cream van jingles using glockenspiels. They will explore melody, rhythm and pitch while creating short musical ideas designed to sound catchy and memorable. Students will also continue learning to sing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in Woiwurrung language.
Students who completed this learning last week will begin exploring different ways of playing instruments and representing these sounds using symbols and graphic notation.
Grade 3/4
Students will finish creating their musical compositions inspired by a particular image, using predominantly instruments from the string family. They will continue exploring how musical choices can help communicate mood and emotion in music.
Grade 5/6
Students will explore how music can create mood and emotion by composing an original piece of music in GarageBand to accompany a video clip. They will experiment with musical elements and different instruments influence the mood of their composition, before comparing and reflecting on how different musical choices can evoke contrasting emotions and responses from an audience.
Physical Education
Cross Country
Congratulations to Charli, Isla and Victoria from Grade 6, who represented our school at the Division Cross Country Carnival held at Yarra Glen Racecourse. All three students competed exceptionally well, demonstrating determination, resilience and excellent sportsmanship throughout the event.
Congratulations to Isla, who finished 19th, Charli, who finished 17th, and Victoria, who achieved an outstanding 2nd place finish.
Victoria's success saw her progress to the Regional Cross Country Finals, where she competed against some of the strongest runners in the region. Victoria once again performed brilliantly, finishing in an impressive 12th place.
We are incredibly proud of all three students and congratulate Victoria on her outstanding achievement.
In the Classroom...
Over the coming weeks, PE classes will be getting into the spirit of the FIFA World Cup as students take part in a soccer unit. Students will be learning and practising a range of fundamental soccer skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting and teamwork.
As students develop their skills and confidence, the older year levels will have opportunities to apply their learning in modified games and match situations, focusing on strategy, communication and sportsmanship. We look forward to seeing students embrace the excitement of the world game while continuing to develop their physical skills and teamwork.
