Co-Curricular - Senior Sport

This past week we have had several boys in representative honours across a multitude of sports.

Last Wednesday our Cross Country team travelled to the Sydney International Equestrian Centre to compete at the 2026 ISA Cross Country Carnival. While our team was small, all boys performed strongly on a very difficult course. Congratulations to Nicolae I, Ryan S, Archie A and Charlie A who qualified for the ISA Cross Country team to compete at the NSWCIS Championships in June.

Thank you to Ms Rachel Simms, Mr Ross Angelatos and Coach Deegan for their help and efforts with the Cross Country team this year.

Congratulations to Jake A, Harvey H, Charlie R, Cristian L and Isaac G who played for the ISA Football Representative side in the NSWCIS Championships at Hills Grammar School on Tuesday and Wednesday. Results and updates on how the boys went will be published next week.

The 16 and Under and 18 and Under ISA Rugby Trials took place at St Pius X College Playing Fields on Monday and Tuesday. Sean C trialled for the 16 and Under side on Monday while we had Jack A, Christian D, Alex R, Alex S, Angus D, Oscar D, Thomas H, Hamish M and Ronan O trialled for the 18 and Under side. Updates on the boys’ selections will be published next week.

Congratulations to Vincent P who recently competed at the NSW All School Diving Championships where he came first in the 15-16 Years Platform event and second in the 16 Years Springboard event. Vincent will now represent NSW All Schools at the School Sport Australia Diving Championships in Melbourne in July. Well done Vincent!

Rugby Update

It was a weekend of mixed results with fixtures over several locations. Our top teams performed well in Campbelltown against St Gregory’s College, with some commanding wins from our 13As and 14As while our 16As secured a last-minute victory with a late try and a conversion by Seamus O to win the game. The 15As continued their title defense with a very convincing win. The afternoon was built up to a fast and furious fixture full of collisions, mixed in with set piece dominance. The First XV team stayed disciplined and composed to outmuscle and outsmart a physical St Gregory’s team. Teams that travelled to the Southern Highlands were met with some challenging fixtures but our 14B and 15C teams flew the SPC flag with convincing wins.

As has been communicated for the past two weeks in the Especean, this weekend, 30 May, is a Bye Round only for the First XV. All other teams will play either Central Coast Grammar, Redlands, or a GPS/CAS school. It is expected that all students will attend their game, regardless of the location. Thank you to the overwhelming number of families who ensured their son got to his game last weekend.

A reminder that schoolboy rugby is successful due to its inclusion of both metropolitan and regional schools. Our regional schools travel around four hours each way every second weekend to take part in our competition, so it is a fair expectation that we show the same level of commitment when playing away from home. The College arranges transport for rugby games in Bathurst and Orange, and families are asked to arrange transport for all other games. If you are ever struggling to get your son to a game, please reach out to his teammates to find an alternative.

Football Update

While our First XI had a bye this week, I was able to watch several matches at Macquarie University, and it was great to see some strong performances across the program. Highlights included 16As defeating Redlands 3–0, our Second XI securing an impressive 3–0 away win over Redlands First XI, Sixth XI winning 3–1, and 13B coming from behind to defeat Redlands 2–1. Other standout results included 14E remaining undefeated with a 15–2 win over Shore School, 13F also remaining undefeated after a 5–0 win over Barker College, and 13H recording their first win of the season against Trinity Grammar School 3–0.

Overall, we finished the round with 19 wins, 2 draws and 8 losses, with 108 goals scored and 41 conceded — a fantastic effort across the SPC Football Program and a pleasing reflection of the work being done across all age groups.
