Staff Faith Formation Day - Growing in Faith
On Tuesday, staff from St Joseph’s joined colleagues from St Mary’s Malvern East and St Roch’s Glen Iris for a Faith Formation Day focused on deepening our understanding of faith and strengthening our shared mission as Catholic educators.
The day began with a presentation from Anthony Wright, who spoke about the life and legacy of Saint Philip Neri and the Oratory movement. Staff reflected on St Philip’s belief that faith is nurtured through encouragement, joy, positive role modelling and seeing the good in others. His example reminds us that living the Gospel is often found in the simple, everyday ways we care for and support one another.
We then gathered for Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and spent time in prayer and reflection. Staff explored the creation story in Genesis, reflecting on the truth that every person is created in the image and likeness of God. Through moments of silence, prayer and contemplation, we considered how we can better listen for God's presence amidst the noise and busyness of everyday life.
In the afternoon, MACS Religious Education Curriculum writer Kyle Hood shared insights into the new Religious Education curriculum that will soon be introduced across Catholic schools. The curriculum presents a coherent and engaging story of faith from Prep to Year 12, centred on Jesus Christ and the Gospel values that guide Christian living. It aims to provide every student with opportunities to encounter Jesus, grow in faith and develop a deeper understanding of their place in God's story. St Joseph’s is currently trialling units from the new curriculum in our Prep classrooms, and we are excited by the opportunities it offers for student learning and faith formation.
A valuable part of the day was the opportunity to collaborate with staff from our neighbouring parish schools, sharing ideas, experiences and reflections as we continue to grow together in our mission of Catholic education.
A special thank you to Fr Michael Gallacher for facilitating the day and accompanying us throughout our faith journey. His reflections, leadership and willingness to share his wisdom helped make the day both meaningful and inspiring. We are grateful for his ongoing support of our school and parish community.
We are grateful for the opportunity to step away from our usual routines, deepen our faith, and reflect on how we can continue to bring Christ into the hearts and lives of the children entrusted to our care.
