1/2B's Term 2 Learning Highlights

Here's a peek into our classroom...
What a fantastic and busy Term 2 it has been! Year 1/2B students have embraced new challenges, celebrated successes, and enjoyed many exciting learning experiences along the way. Check out what we've been up to.
RE - Sorry Day
During National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week, students learned about the importance of respect, understanding and working together to build positive relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.
Across the week the students reflected on how we can all contribute to a more respectful and inclusive future for all Australians. Students drew a helping hand with one thing they could do to be a good friend to everyone in our community.
Maths - Length
This term, students investigated length through fun and practical activities. They compared, ordered and estimated the length of classroom objects before measuring them using handspans, paperclips and Unifix blocks. Along the way, they learned that accurate measuring requires units that are all the same size and placed carefully end-to-end with no gaps.
Melbourne Zoo
As part of our Animals unit, the Year 1/2 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Melbourne Zoo. During our visit, we participated in an engaging education session led by a zoo educator, where students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of animal features, habitats and classifications. With beautiful weather on our side, we spent the day exploring the zoo's many exhibits, observing animals up close and making real-world connections to our classroom learning. It was a fantastic experience that sparked curiosity, inspired questions and brought our learning about animals to life!
Information Reports
The Year 1/2 students have enjoyed becoming young zoologists this term as they explored the fascinating world of animals! They investigated a variety of animal features, including feathers, fur, scales, sharp teeth and claws, and discovered how these features help animals survive in their habitats. Students learned that animals live in a range of habitats on both land and water. They explored land habitats such as forests, grasslands and deserts, as well as water habitats including oceans, lakes, rivers and wetlands. Our learning also focused on animal classification and how scientists group animals based on their shared features. Students explored the characteristics of mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, fish and insects, developing an understanding of how animals are alike and different. To showcase their learning, students researched a chosen animal and created their own informative reports. They enjoyed sharing interesting facts and demonstrating their growing knowledge of the animal kingdom.
National Simultaneous Storytime - Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller
Last week we participated in National Simultaneous Storytime. This year the story, ‘Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller', is written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd. We enjoyed listening to the story and we had a go at drawing Luna Roo with the help of the book’s illustrator, Jake Minton.
