Reconciliation Week

During Reconciliation Week, our Foundation students took part in several special activities to help them learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.

We first listened to the story Somebody’s Land by Adam Goodes, Ellie Laing, and David Hardy. This story prompted a discussion about the Acknowledgement of Country, which we say every day as part of our morning routine. This discussion helped the Foundation students understand what the Acknowledgement of Country means, and why it is important to respect and recognise the Traditional Owners of the land where we learn and play every day.

This year’s Reconciliation Week theme, “All In” encouraged us to think about how we can all work together to build a more respectful and inclusive space. We spoke about what it means to be “all in” by showing kindness, including everyone, and demonstrating respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.

As part of this learning, each child drew a self-portrait to represent that we can all play a part in creating a welcoming and respectful community. Through this activity, students reflected on how small everyday actions can help everyone feel valued, included, and connected.

It was wonderful to see our Foundation students posing thoughtful questions and engaging in meaningful discussions, and showing curiosity, creativity, and respect throughout Reconciliation Week.
