Dear students, families and staff of Cheltenham Primary School,
At Cheltenham we joined people across Australia in recognising National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). Reconciliation Week is a time for all of us to learn more about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to think about how we can contribute to reconciliation every day.
This year’s theme, 'All In,' reminds us that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility. Each of us has a role to play in building respectful relationships, valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and ensuring First Nations voices are heard and celebrated.
At Cheltenham Primary School, we are proud of our diverse and inclusive community. Our students learn daily about kindness, respect, empathy and belonging. Reconciliation grows stronger when we listen to one another, learn from different perspectives and make sure everyone feels welcome and valued. Throughout the week the children took part in learning experiences that deepened their understanding of Australia’s First Nations histories and cultures in classrooms and specialist areas. Please enjoy reviewing these in today's newsletter.
As a community, we encourage everyone to reflect on what being “All In” means. Whether it is showing kindness, learning about First Nations cultures, challenging stereotypes or celebrating diversity, every action—big or small—helps build a more respectful and inclusive future.
Together: 'Supported We Achieve; Challenged We Grow.
Community Connections at Our First Farmers Market

On Saturday Cheltenham Primary School hosted its first Farmers Market. Thank you to the many members of our school and local community that attended throughout the morning to support the event, browse the stalls and enjoy spending time together.
A special thank you to our dedicated PTFA volunteers who generously gave their time to operate the barbeque. Events such as these provide valuable opportunities for families, staff and community members to connect and strengthen the sense of belonging that makes our school such a special place.
Following the success of this inaugural event, we are pleased to confirm that the next Farmers Market will be held on the fifth Saturday in August (29 August). We look forward to welcoming our community back for another enjoyable morning of local produce, community spirit and connection.
Kitchen Classroom
This afternoon I once again had the pleasure of joining Group 2 in 6A in the Kitchen Classroom to collaboratively cook Mediterranean Greek meatballs. This was a very “All in”dish with everyone adding their ingredients and then mixing it all together to form the meatballs. To complement the dish, the children made Tzatziki, which everyone agreed really lifted the flavours, especially when paired with warmed pita bread.

What made the session even more special was the way food opened up conversations. As the students cooked, they began sharing the versions of meatballs made in their own homes — from Russian kotleti to Italian polpette. It was a lovely reminder that while recipes may differ, the act of preparing and enjoying food is something that connects people across cultures. In that moment, the kitchen became more than a classroom; it became a place where stories, traditions, and flavours came together.
2027 Foundation enrolment
Thank you to all families with a sibling ready to start Foundation in 2027 that have collected an enrolment pack or completed the enrolment form which can be downloaded from our website. If you have child starting Foundation in 2027 and have not completed an enrolment form as yet, please do so as soon as possible to ensure that we hold a place for your child.
In conclusion a reminder that this Friday 5 June is a Curriculum Day and no students attend school. A team of our best Scientists in Year 5 will be attending a STEM Challenge day at Cheltenham Secondary College with teams from other schools in the area. Our very best wishes to you all! We look forward to reading about the Challenge day in our next edition of the newsletter.
Wishing everyone a happy long weekend for the King's Birthday, Monday 8 June and we will look forward to seeing you once again on Tuesday, 9 June.
Kind Regards,
Bronwyn
