Principal's Message
By Dale Mills
G’day Parkhill community,
Last week we celebrated our Multicultural Day at Parkhill Primary. It was great to see so many students dressing in cultural attire, wearing colours that represent their heritage, or bringing in an item to share with their class. The day provided a valuable opportunity to recognise and learn about the many cultures that make up our school community.
Throughout the day, classes took part in rotation activities focused on different cultures from around the world. We also enjoyed two engaging incursions – a Kung Fu fan dance workshop and a shadow puppet performance, ‘Journey to the West’. It was pleasing to see students actively involved in both and gaining new cultural insights.
Next week is the final week of term. On Thursday afternoon, our PFA will host the annual school disco. A big thank you to all PFA members for your time, effort and commitment in organising this event for our community and making it such a success.
Finally, a reminder that as next Friday (26 June) is the last day of term, students will be dismissed at 2:30pm.
Supervision in the Yard
I would like to remind all families that the best time for children to arrive at school is between 8.45am and 8.55am. Teaching staff are on duty supervising the yard between 8:45am and 9:00am. Students should not be present before this time as there is no supervision.
The yard is supervised by staff between 3:30pm and 3:45pm after school. Students in the playground outside these supervision times are at risk. If it is necessary for children to be at school either early or late, then they should be enrolled in our Before and After School Care (TheirCare) Program, or we ask that you make other arrangements. For more information about TheirCare, please visit www.theircare.com.au and see the flyers in this newsletter.
Semester One Reports
Next week your child’s report for Semester One will be available through Compass.
This report is a summary of your child’s learning and progress for Semester One 2026. Your child’s achievement and progress is reported against the Victorian Curriculum.
Please read and discuss this report with your child. In trying to get the most out of your child’s report, we recommend you do the following:
Step 1: Look at your child's achievements in each of the learning areas. A solid dot indicates the level that your child is currently working at, in line with the Victorian Curriculum. A hollow dot represents their achievement from their previous report. This hollow dot is not displayed for all subject areas, or for students new to the school. For English and Mathematics, there is a shaded yellow band to illustrate the expected level of achievement for their year level.
Step 2: Read the comments, written by the classroom teacher, which acknowledge and celebrate your child’s effort and attitude this semester. You will also find a guide to what your child has learned in English, Mathematics and each of the specialist areas. This information together will give you a good indication of how well your child is achieving and developing.
Step 3: Consider your child’s attendance. Regular attendance at school is essential to make sure learning is not disrupted and provides building blocks for the future. Attendance at school also helps children to develop important social skills, such as friendship building, teamwork, communication skills and a healthy self-esteem.
Step 4: Congratulate your child on the effort they have put into this semester. Your praise will make them try even harder in the future. It is also important that together you talk about their areas of improvement and how you are going to support them with these.
Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Applications
We are now accepting enrolment applications for students beginning school in 2027. If you have a child of school age starting school next year, please contact our school office to receive more information. We are more than happy to help you with the application process or to book a school tour. If you know of any families who have children ready to start school next year, please encourage them to get in contact with us so we can share with them our wonderful Parkhill community and how they can become a part of it in 2027.
Kind regards,
Dale
