Scripture of the Month
June
In first term, our monthly Scripture passages focused on God's awesome works when he spoke all things into existence. His Creation speaks of His majesty and power. We marvel at his wondrous deeds and praise Him for His awesome works. Everything He made was good - very good.
But that is not how things are now. There is still good in this world, but there is also much brokenness. What went wrong?
This term, we have focused on Adam and Eve's rebellion - the Fall. Their desire to decide what was right and wrong and to do their own thing led to the brokenness we see now. Their relationship with God was broken. Their relationship with each other was broken, and their relationship with the rest of Creation was broken. Even the relationship with themselves was broken as they experienced shame and brokenness inside.
As per the verses below, that brokenness has extended to all of us. But praise be to God, he had a rescue plan right from the start - Jesus, the snake (sin) crusher. Through him, the free gift of God, eternal life, is available for all.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 5:12
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned.
Romans 5:17-19
If by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
So then, as through one trespass there is condemnation for everyone, so also through one righteous act there is justification leading to life for everyone. For just as through one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so also through the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.
Romans 8:20-22
For the creation was subjected to futility—not willingly, but because of him who subjected it—in the hope that the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage to decay into the glorious freedom of God’s children. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together with labor pains until now.
