Snapshots from the week

Year 9 Market Day

Year 9 Market Day was a fantastic showcase of creativity, initiative and teamwork, with students bringing energy and professionalism to every stall.

Across the event, students demonstrated outstanding effort in designing, producing and marketing their products. From handmade goods and creative services through to innovative business ideas, each group showed real thought and originality in how they attracted and engaged their customers.

What stood out most was the level of collaboration and problem-solving on display. Students worked together to manage stock, communicate with buyers, adapt their approach throughout the day and ensure their stalls ran smoothly under real-world conditions. The confidence and resilience shown by many groups was impressive, particularly when responding to busy periods and making quick decisions in the moment.

A big congratulations to all Year 9 students involved. Your hard work, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking made the day a success and provided a valuable learning experience in bringing ideas to life.

Lunchbox Sessions

This week’s Lunchbox Session brought together two powerful stories of passion, persistence and turning interests into real-world careers.

Students heard from former elite athlete Anna-Liza Mopio-Jane, who shared her journey from high-performance sport into supporting the next generation of athletes through education and development pathways. Her story highlighted the many career opportunities that exist within the sporting industry beyond being on the field, including coaching, support services and education.

We were also joined by The Electric Chair Barbershop owner Josh Wessling, who spoke about his pathway from pursuing music to learning barbering, completing his apprenticeship, and ultimately building and taking over a successful local business. His experience gave students a clear insight into entrepreneurship, trade pathways and what it takes to grow a business from the ground up.

A great session for students interested in sport, business, trades and creative industries, with plenty of questions and real-world advice shared throughout.
