Victorian Government Schools Principals' Conference

Last week, I along with school leaders from across Victoria came together for the Victorian Government Schools Principals' Conference. The conference provided an opportunity for principals to learn from educational experts, share ideas, and explore the future directions of education in our state.

Several key themes emerged throughout the conference:

Student Learning and Wellbeing

A strong focus remained on ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Discussions highlighted the importance of evidence-based teaching practices, inclusive education, and supporting student wellbeing as a foundation for successful learning.

Building Strong School Communities

Schools continue to play a vital role in bringing communities together. Presenters emphasised the importance of positive partnerships between schools, families and the wider community to support student success and strengthen connections.

Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies

There was significant discussion about the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Schools are increasingly exploring how technology can support learning, reduce administrative workload, and prepare students with the skills they will need for the future.

Preparing Students for the Future

The conference highlighted the importance of equipping students with the skills needed for an ever-changing world. Critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication and adaptability were identified as essential capabilities for future success.

The conference reinforced the important work being undertaken across Victorian schools and provided valuable insights that will continue to inform and strengthen our work at Drysdale Primary School. We look forward to applying these learnings as we continue to provide the best possible educational opportunities for all students.

School Review Commencing This Week

Tomorrow and next Tuesday, Drysdale Primary School will participate in its School Review process. All Victorian government schools undertake a review every four years to celebrate achievements, evaluate current practices, and identify priorities for future improvement.

The review is led by an independent reviewer and involves a range of stakeholders, including school leaders, teachers, education support staff, students, parents, School Council representatives, and Department of Education personnel.

The review begins with an analysis of school data, including student learning growth, wellbeing outcomes, attendance, engagement, and other measures of school performance. This information helps the review panel identify areas of strength as well as opportunities for further improvement.

Over the two review days, panel members will visit classrooms to observe teaching and learning in action across a range of year levels and curriculum areas. These observations help provide a deeper understanding of how learning programs are implemented and experienced by students.

A key part of the process involves focus groups with students, teachers, education support staff, school leaders and parents. These discussions provide valuable insights into the experiences, perspectives and priorities of different members of our school community. We are grateful to the parents who have volunteered to participate in the parent focus group, as family perspectives are an important part of the review process.

The review panel will use the information gathered from data analysis, classroom observations and focus groups to identify the school's key strengths and areas for development. From this, they will work with the school to establish goals, targets and improvement strategies that will guide our work over the next four years.

The final outcome of the review will be a new School Strategic Plan, which will outline our priorities for continued improvement in student learning, wellbeing and engagement. This plan will help ensure that Drysdale Primary School continues to provide the best possible educational opportunities for all students.

We look forward to sharing the outcomes of the review with our community later this year and thank all staff, students, parents and community members who contribute their time and feedback throughout the process.

Health

It appears that the flu season is beginning to hit us with some families experiencing various forms of illness. This has also occurred amongst staff too and we have had to have more than our ever-reliable CRT’s in to replace teachers.

Where possible, we try to have the same CRT in a class for multiple days when staff are unwell. We appreciate your understanding when our regular staff are away unwell.

School Uniform

Just a reminder that we have a wide variety of school uniform available and a small selection of second-hand uniform. We have noticed a bit of an increase of students not wearing the school uniform. If the school jumper etc, is in the wash, please send a note with your child so we are aware as staff will continue to remind students about wearing uniform.
