At Rolling Hills Primary School, we believe that wellbeing matters every day — for our students, families, and staff. October is Mental Health Month, a time to pause, reflect, and take small steps to look after our mental health and the wellbeing of those around us.
Mental health is about how we think, feel, and act. It affects how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Just like our physical health, it needs care and attention. This month is a great reminder to check in with ourselves and each other.
Becoming More Aware of Our Mental Health
Notice your feelings: Take a moment each day to identify how you’re feeling. Naming emotions helps us understand and manage them.
Pause and breathe: A few deep breaths can calm the mind and body when things feel overwhelming.
Connect with others: Share your thoughts with a trusted friend, colleague, or family member — talking helps lighten the load.
Unplug when needed: Taking a break from screens or social media can boost focus and reduce stress.
Ways to Strengthen Your Mental Health
Move your body: Physical activity — even a short walk — releases endorphins that help us feel good.
Get outdoors: Nature has a powerful calming effect. Spend time in the sunshine, garden, or local park.
Show kindness: Helping others can increase your own happiness and sense of purpose.
Sleep well: Aim for a consistent bedtime routine to recharge your body and mind.
Practice gratitude: Write down three things you’re grateful for each day to foster a positive mindset.
Optimistic October – A Focus on Positivity
This month also aligns with Optimistic October, part of the Action for Happiness calendar. It encourages us to look for what’s good, even during challenging times. Each day offers a small action — like giving sincere compliments, focusing on what we can control, or spending time doing something uplifting — to nurture hope and positivity.
You can explore the Optimistic October calendar at: www.actionforhappiness.org

Let’s take this month to focus on optimism, kindness, and connection — small steps that can make a big difference in nurturing a happier, healthier community.
NED Presentation
Yesterday, Rolling Hills Primary School was treated to an exciting visit from The NED Show! Our presenter, Kieran, shared an inspiring message built around three important ideas —
Never Give Up,
Encourage Others, and
Do Your Best.
Kieran kept everyone engaged with his energetic storytelling and amazing yoyo tricks that helped bring NED’s message to life. Students were captivated as he showed how practice, perseverance, and positivity can help us achieve our goals — both in learning and in life.
To help remind us of these important lessons, yoyos are available for purchase next week before school (8:30–8:45am) and after school (3:30–3:45pm) on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday on the quad.
**Please note: all yoyo purchases are cash sales only.**
