Junior School

Junior School Open Day

On Friday 12 September, the Junior School was delighted to welcome parents and carers to its annual Open Day. Guests enjoyed a vibrant program that highlighted the joy and energy students bring to each day at Kambala. From classroom visits and the excitement of the House Cup Touch and Netball Finals to the creativity on display at the STEM Showcase and the music of the Massie and Primary Concerts, visitors were given a meaningful glimpse into the breadth of student learning and achievement.

A highlight of the day was the House Cup Finals, where students demonstrated impressive skill and teamwork. Congratulations went to Hawthorne House, who emerged victorious in both Touch Football and Netball. The competition not only brought out great spirit and camaraderie but also reinforced the values of determination, collaboration and house pride that are central to Junior School life.

The program concluded with a Science Showcase, which formed the culmination of the Year 10 and Year 6 Science Mentor Program. Launched earlier this year as a pilot research partnership with the University of Technology Sydney and G.A.T.E.W.A.Y.S., this initiative saw selected Year 10 girls mentor Year 6 students in designing and conducting research projects around the theme “Feeding the Future: Can Our Ecosystems Keep Up?” Over 10 sessions in Terms 2 and 3, students investigated issues of environmental sustainability through fair testing and scientific inquiry. On Open Day, the girls presented their findings to visiting scientists from UTS, receiving authentic feedback and recognition for their work. Special thanks were extended to the Head of Science, the Executive Director of KITE, the Science Specialist, and the Year 6 teachers for their vision and support in bringing this opportunity to life. With programs like this, Kambala continued to inspire young minds and nurture the next generation of scientific thinkers and leaders.
