TERM 4 WEEK 4 2025
As always, the term is flying by, and we have already reached the halfway point of another successful year. Teachers are equally busy writing reports and finalising class placements for 2026. There is always so much happening! Schools are vibrant, dynamic places, and our focus always remains on providing the best possible learning experiences for every student.
A quick reminder about the School Closure on Friday, 7th November and Pupil Free Day on Monday, 10th November. During the Pupil Free Day, staff will be focusing on student growth through our Learner Qualities, engaging in reflection and planning for the remainder of 2025 and the year ahead in 2026. This work supports our ongoing commitment to helping every student become a successful learner.
OSHC will be available on both days. Please see Jenny for bookings.
Index of Educational Disadvantage (IoED) Reform
Last term, the Department for Education announced an important update to the Index of Educational Disadvantage (IoED). This new approach now uses school-based data instead of broader area-based data, providing a more accurate picture of the needs of students in South Australian public schools.
Schools are categorised from 1 to 7, with 1 representing the most disadvantaged and 7 the least. As a result of this reform, Lockleys North Primary School’s IoED category has changed from Category 6 to Category 7.
This change reflects the most recent, school-specific information and ensures that our funding and support remain aligned with the current context of our school community.
What Does This Mean for Our School?
Initial projections from our Finance Committee indicate that from 2026 onwards, the school may receive between $50,000 and $100,000 less in funding each year as a result of the reclassification.
This will require us to:
Carefully review and adjust our school budgets
Look for opportunities to be more creative and efficient with our financial planning, and
Continue to make strategic decisions that prioritise teaching and learning.
Further work will be undertaken over the coming weeks and early next year to gain a clearer understanding of our funding outlook for 2026 and beyond.
Please be assured that student learning will not be impacted by these changes. Supporting high quality teaching and learning remains our core focus and commitment. While the funding changes present some challenges, we are confident that with careful planning, creativity, and the continued support of our school community, LNPS will continue to thrive. Our dedication to providing the best possible learning opportunities for every child remains our core business.
Updated 65th Anniversary Community Students and staff are busy preparing for our 65th Anniversary Community Night and putting the final touches on their Showcase of Learning for the evening. The weather forecast for tomorrow night looks perfect, with a few showers in the morning, followed by clear skies for the rest of the day.
We are thrilled to announce that George Diakomichalis, an LNPS old scholar, owner of Kalymnos Pastries, and star of the TV show Let’s Eat with George, will be our MC for the night. He’ll be joined on stage by two of our incredible senior students, Leo and Gracie.
Tomorrow night is shaping up to be a huge celebration, and we encourage everyone in the LNPS community to spread the word and come along to celebrate our amazing school and its 65 years of learning, growth, and connection.
Please see the 65th Anniversary pages in the newsletter for further information.
Finally, nominations for Governing Council close on Friday, 7th November. If you would like further information regarding Governing Council, or would like to nominate for a vacancy, please email tyson.grinham428@schools.sa.edu.au.
