Principal Message

Dear Families,

Hats: SunSmart season has begun, and it is now compulsory to have SunSmart (wide brimmed) hats on when outside. Please ensure your child has the appropriate hat or they will be directed to play in a designated shaded area near the library and bottom basketball court. Your child is welcome to apply their own sunscreen as needed too. On extremely hot (wet or windy too) days, we will move to indoor break times.

Magpie Season: Please be aware that magpies are out and about protecting their newborn and young birds. They may be near the school, the park or even by the beach. Please encourage your children to play away from any nesting areas and let the magpies, and other birds, grow and protect their young.

Oval: The Menheere family (Menheere Bros Earthmoving) are a three-generation family that have continued to support OGPS over the years with Grandparents back in the day helping build the oval (now Year 3 portable area) and Matt helping us with soil on the current oval. Matt and family have been helping regenerate the oval each year so we can and enjoy well into the future and have a great play space. If the weather turns wet, we will need to stay off the oval to prevent damage to it and give it a real chance to flourish. Thanks again to the Menheere family for their ongoing support of the school.

Swimming: More classes will be heading off for their swimming program soon so please remember to pack bathers and towel and unpack and wash them when you get home! Possibly a few more snacks for the kids during this time as they will be expending a bit more energy!

Tennis: Several senior students headed off yesterday with Mr Horbury for the next level of tennis lightning premierships. Looking forward to hearing the results. Thanks to all who represented the school and to Mr Horbury for providing another opportunity for our students.

Art Show: The date is locked in – Friday 21st November at the Hive Gallery in the industrial estate. There will be more info over the next few weeks from Lyn in the Art room and no doubt she will need a number of helpers to prepare the space. Keep your eye out for more information over the coming weeks.

Drawing us Together: A huge thanks to Kim Kenny for organising the annual illustration entries for our students in the “Drawing us Together” competition, where students could illustrate various pages within a book written by an indigenous artist. This morning, Mrs H and I headed over to Leopold Plaza to see the successful artists awarded with a certificate and their artwork in a frame, that now forms part of the book. The book is available in the foyer if you are interested in seeing the great work by some of our students. Congratulations and a special mention to Edie P in Year 6 who for the 4th year entered and has been published 3 out of the 4 years in various books! Well done to all who have entered.

Lost Property: Just a friendly reminder to label all school jumpers, hats, drink bottles, lunchboxes etc. with your child's surname. This ensures that if it is found in the yard or makes it way to the lost property trolley, the item can be easily returned. First week back and our lost property trolley is full!

Headlice: Please be mindful of headlice as we have had a few cases. Classroom teachers will send out a notification via Seesaw if there is a reported case in your child's class.

Have a great week everyone.
