Country Tells Us When Performance

Congratulations to 1B,1E, 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D for their energetic performance of Country Tells Us When on Friday 17th October. We are proud of all the students for learning the song in Indigenous language, which explores the seasonal changes of the Kimberley region, in and around Rubibi (Broome). By participating in Busking For Change, we are not only giving our students a positive learning experience, but we are growing their awareness of the richness and diversity of First Languages and that we can all be changemakers. Together we have raised $227 for the Busking For Change fundraiser, which supports the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

LOTE

This term Year One and Year Two students are learning the history of Chinese Language and Culture (VC2LC2U03 and VC2LC2U04)

We learnt that Hanzi (Chinese characters) were formed in multiple ways. One of the earliest way was pictograms. As many ancient languages started, Chinese Hanzi evolved from symbols. The best way for students to understand the construction of Chinese writing system, including complex concepts of strokes and radicals, is to mimic the way the writing changes.

We drew items we saw in our daily life and our favourite topics, then created a Chinese Hanzi for the meaning. We explored how we use strikes to replace and represent the drawing and its meaning.

We then experimented on paper making technique, one of the ancient inventions of China. We built connections between our daily life to the history to learn the importance of every small step the society had advanced in history.
