School Wide Expectations

Each week our students are explicitly taught one of the School Wide behaviour expectations using the teach - remind - reteach - praise model.  The focus for each fortnight will be shared with you in the newsletter to enable you to discuss what children are learning at home.

Next fortnight's focus areas are:

Week 4

We keep our bodies and objects to ourselves.

We respect everyone’s personal space.

At school, students are learning that everyone has the right to feel safe and comfortable. This means keeping hands, feet and belongings to themselves and recognising that each person’s personal space is important. Respecting personal space helps children build positive friendships and understand boundaries.

At home: Families can support this by talking about what personal space looks like — for example, asking before giving a hug or borrowing something. Role-playing different scenarios, like standing in line or playing a game, can also help children practise respectful interactions.  Discussing non examples at home is also helpful to clarify expected behaviour eg: what does it look like and what doesn't it look like? This could be done through role play, discussions or actions.

Week 5

We follow the expectations of the ICT Agreement

Students are exploring how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly. The ICT Agreement outlines how digital devices, the internet and online platforms should be used at school to keep everyone safe and ensure learning tools are used appropriately.

At home: Parents can support this by discussing family expectations for screen time, privacy and online communication. Encourage your child to talk about what they do online, remind them not to share personal information, and model positive digital habits such as taking breaks from screens and using technology for learning and creativity.

Upstanders 2025 Book Launch

The Upstanders from five schools across Bayside came together at the Beaumaris Community Hall on Wednesday 15 October for a night of pizza, juice, and most importantly (of course) the presentations to do with the Upstander program. Parents, teachers, and students from Hampton, Beaumoris, Sandringham, Sandringham East, and Brighton Beach all came along to join the fun, and at the end of the event the Upstanders from all the schools were presented with a book that we all co-created with students from each school. Cassy Polimeni, a talented local author, assisted us when writing our stories. A collection of stories was finally finished, and we were all chuffed to be presented with our own copy of the Upstander Compilation. We must thank Cassy Polimeni for her outstanding support throughout the writing of our short stories. Debby Taylor Haynes, the deputy mayor of Bayside, gave a cracking speech about the importance of the Upstander Program and education on the systems we learnt about. A huge thank you to our school’s speakers, including our two behind the scenes local news speakers. We have extremely enjoyed the program and we are now official authors! Looking forward to exciting new opportunities for the Upstander community in the future. Join the change by borrowing our Upstander Compilation of stories from any mainstream library in the Bayside area. Or pop into Hampton Primary’s library for a read as well!

Here’s to a fantastic year for the Upstanders! By Will, Jack, and Portia.

Casual Clothes Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone for your support of our fundraiser yesterday.  We raised $590.40 which will go towards the purchase of items to support inclusion for our students.

The activities that were undertaken this month in support of ADHD awareness month and neurodiversity in general, were the inspiration of one of our Grade 5 students.  I have been working with Anya since the middle of last term to put together a program of staff professional learning, staff resources to share with students, speeches at assembly and culminating with yesterday's fundraiser.  Congratulations to Anya for helping us raise the awareness of neurodiversity and to celebrate the valuable contribution everyone plays in our diverse community.
