On Tuesday 21 October, the SES Moorabbin Unit visited Hampton Primary’s Year 6 students. Their visit focused on how the SES assists the community following natural disasters, directly linking to the Victorian Curriculum’s Geography strand.

Unit members Clarine, Alan and Chris arrived in the SES response truck and presented key information about staying safe during severe weather events, what to do (and what not to do) during floods, and most importantly who to call in different emergency situations.

During the presentation, the SES Unit received an information call-out, which gave students a fascinating real-time insight into how an emergency response unfolds. The group discussed this moment together, deepening their understanding of the SES’s vital work.
In the final part of the session, Alan and Chris guided small groups of students through the various sections of the response truck, explaining the use and importance of the equipment onboard.
It was a fantastic afternoon for everyone! We loved having Clarine, Alan and Chris visit us, and we are very appreciative of the voluntary service they dedicate to our community in times of need.
To show our support, the Year 6 students made a gold coin donation to the SES Moorabbin Unit, which Ella Dumayne proudly presented at the end of the session.
“Who you gonna call?! …SES Moorabbin! 132 500”-

Recently we have had our second group of Grade 6 students attend the John Monash Science School at Monash University as a part of a Numeracy and Science learning extension opportunity.

Students have worked with a range of Year 10 John Monash students, as well as other students from a range of primary schools to challenge their thinking in a series of problem solving and experimental based learning activities. These included a range of games based activities, numeracy problem solving questions and science experiments. The following students have been involved in the experience:
Well done to everyone involved, we hope you enjoyed the experience!
