PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:

Welcome back to what promises to be an exciting and productive Term 4! As the final term of the school year, it offers a wonderful opportunity for our students to consolidate their learning, participate in engaging activities, and prepare for the year ahead.

Maintenance

During the Term 4 holiday period the Department of Education’s maintenance team completed sanding and polishing the floorboards in A Block and replace the carpet with new carpet tiles during the December/January holiday break.

Successful School Show

This years biannual School Show was a great success in many ways. Our students excelled in the performing arts, continued the relationship with GRC Peakhurst and supporting the development of skills of the Media Team and provided an avenue for raising funds for the school.

The school had an approximate expenditure of $5000 (Try Booking fees, costumes & marquee/chair hire) and a revenue of $8500, providing an approximate profit of $3500. Exact figures will be finalised over the coming weeks when all invoices have been paid.

A few projects have been earmarked for the profit to go towards, including upgrading the outdoor sound system and purchasing microphone stands for the hall.

School Development Days

Today our staff engaged in professional learning aligned to the new curriculum and supporting students with ADHD. The day built upon staff knowledge of the new science syllabus, as it has been taught in 2025, and turned towards preparing for the implementation in 2026. Our Team Around a School attended to develop the staff understanding of an ADHD diagnosis, impact on learning and strategies to support success at school.

Today was the final School Development Day for 2025, with all students and staff concluding the end of year on Friday 19th December.

The commencement of 2026 will implement four School Development Days (27/01/26-30/01/26) with all students commencing school on Monday 2nd February 2026.

Enrolments for 2026

We are currently seeking information from families regarding their intentions for 2026. This was first published in the last newsletter in Term 3. The purpose of seeking this information is to assist with school staffing and class structures for 2026.

Kindergarten enrolments are lower than 2025 with an allocation of a two class structure. This will impact the staffing allocation for 2026 as we are farewelling a large cohort in Year 6 to high school. With our current numbers, it is anticipated we will be less one class in our mainstream setting moving into next year.

Consideration for P&C Moving Forward

I would like to request the P&C consider distributing an agenda, including general business topics for discussion, with the Zoom link for the community. The reasons for the request are:

  • allowing the community to decide if the items for discussion on the agenda require their attendance at the meeting, and

  • provide the school the opportunity to have the most knowledgeable staff member present or seek the information prior to the meeting to respond accurately to community questions.

School Excellence Plan 2026-2029

As part of our ongoing commitment to excellence and continuous improvement, our school is about to develop a new School Excellence Plan (SEP). This plan will guide our school’s strategic direction over the coming years, ensuring we provide the best possible learning environment and outcomes for our students.

As part of External Validation, the school engaged in the self-assessment process and identified the following elements as areas for future growth, and drivers of the new School Excellence Plan:

  • Build the capacity of staff aligned with effective and responsive assessment.

  • Teachers review learning with students both in class and on work submitted.

  • A planned approach to inclusion and wellbeing.

A key component of the School Excellence Plan is our school vision statement. This statement reflects the values, goals, and aspirations that define our school community and the future we are working towards together.

We believe it is essential that this vision genuinely represents the hopes and dreams of our students, families, staff, and wider community. Therefore, we warmly invite all members of our community to contribute their ideas to help shape the new vision statement. To do this I will be asking each key stakeholder group to complete a short activity, and I am hoping you will indulge me this evening and engage.

Social media is a powerful tool to promote a viewpoint, idea or message with posts made on TikTok, X or Instagram influencing many. We are going to take 5-10 minutes for our attendees to brainstorm possible social media posts that reflects what you would want from our school, and what we would like others to read or hear about. This activity will also be engaged with staff and student leadership (student leaders & SRC), and once completed by all stakeholders the school executive team with collect consistent themes and ideas to create our school vision statement for the School Excellence Plan.

Thank you for your time and contributions to our school’s vision statement.

Mrs Kristy Bentley

Principal
