Biodiversity Update from Mrs Earle
Next week all classes will be celebrating Water Week! Students will take part in fun and engaging activities that explore the importance of water, how we use it every day, and ways we can help protect this precious resource.
Here are some easy water-saving tips for you and your family to try at home:
💧 Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
💧 Take shorter showers.
💧 Collect rainwater to water your garden.
💧 Use a bucket instead of a hose when washing the car.
💧 Check for dripping taps and get them fixed.
Together, we can make a big difference by using water wisely!

We’re planning to create a beautiful garden tunnel near the sandpit using Reo mesh for climbing plants. If anyone in our community has access to Reo mesh (up to 1.1m wide and 5–6.5m long), we’d love to hear from you!
We’re hoping to source 1–3 pieces to arch across the area and bring this idea to life. Future plans include adding a dwarf deciduous tree and hardy flowering plants to complete the space.
If you can help or know someone who can, please contact Jo Earle at the school.
Every Monday is Compost Monday! Students are encouraged to bring along any food scraps from home to add to our school compost. We’ll be collecting items like fruit peels, veggie scraps, and coffee grounds (no meat or dairy, please!). It’s a great way for our school community to reduce waste and help our garden thrive. Let’s see how much we can compost together!
Next week is the Aussie Bird Count! Ocean Grove Primary School has taken part in this event in previous years, but due to our Water Week activities, we won’t be participating as a school this time. However, families are encouraged to join in at home! Simply download the Aussie Bird Count app and discover the amazing birdlife in our local area — it’s a fun and educational activity to enjoy together in your backyard.
