Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

What a fabulous night we had on Friday night… While the trivia did test our general knowledge it was a great night with plenty of laughs. A very big thank you to the PFA team led by Iggy in organising such a wonderful event. During the evening we had a few school based items up for grabs, congratulations to the following people on their prizes:

  • Priority car parking ⇒ Melaine Harper
  • Principal for a day ⇒ Willem Clark
  • Principal for a day ⇒ Oliver Prack

A very big thank you to everyone who attended the trivia night and supported our school. We were fortunate enough to raise $17,000 that will be invaluable to the upgrade of our school basketball court area.

On a different note, this Friday we will be celebrating World Teacher’s Day. I am so fortunate to work with the wonderful staff of St Leonard’s and see the passion they bring to education every day. Our teachers do an amazing job in the academic teaching of our children but also in the care and compassion they show each and every day. I would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the St Leonard’s staff and thank them for their contributions to our school community.

Reminder: Carpark Safety and Protocols

We’ve noticed some families are not following our school carpark protocols. Please review and adhere to the following to ensure everyone’s safety:

  • Park only in designated bays. Do not block walkways, driveways, or other vehicles.
  • Disabled bays (in the school and parish areas) are for vehicles with a valid, displayed permit only.
  • Drive slowly and follow the one-way loop in both the Springvale Road and Allen Street carparks.
  • When entering via Springvale Road, slow down immediately.
  • When exiting onto Springvale Road, look both ways carefully, especially to the left for children walking or cycling.
  • Parents/guardians must accompany children across pedestrian crossings - strictly no dropoffs from Springvale Road carpark.

To avoid congestion, you may use nearby off-street parking such as Central Reserve, ensuring all council signs are followed and residents’ access is not blocked.

The safety of our children is non-negotiable; it’s always better to be a few minutes late than to risk an accident.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe.

Take care,

Alyce

2026 Classroom Arrangements

In 2026 there will be 2 classes of Prep and 3 multi-age classes in each of Year 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6. We will have 11 classes in total.

As you are aware, teachers change schools and change teaching levels from time to time, so any of our current staff or new staff members may teach your child in 2026.

Planning for the 2026 school year will be commencing soon. Staff undertake a long and detailed process of organising which class each child will be allocated to, based on many factors.

Our professional staff make considered decisions in light of what is the best for each child with our available resources, in the context of the other children, not just in the context of an individual child. Such factors include the academic and social/emotional needs of each child, working relationships and friendships.

We would prefer it if you left these decisions to staff, but if you have anyurgent information regarding the placement of your child, please put your reasons in writing, addressed to me strictly before Friday, October 24th. You may receive a phone call to discuss the issues.

Information received after this date cannot be considered as it will impact on decisions that will have already been made. Information about the placement of your child should be written in the context of your child’s needs, not your preference for a teacher, so please do not use teacher’s names. Requests for 2026 cannot be guaranteed due to the complicated nature of our processes.

The process of class placements includes an opportunity for each child to nominate three children they work well with and three different children they play well with. We guarantee that each child will be placed with one of these nominated children.

If your child is not returning to St. Leonard’s in 2026, I would appreciate you letting me know, by letter, before Friday, October 24th.
