Parents and Carers,

One of the most important aspects of our children's spiritual development is the practice of prayer. It offers an opportunity to deepen one’s relationship with the divine and engage in meaningful reflection.

Prayer is an integral part of our school community. We have been developing our prayer spaces throughout the school and introducing different forms of prayer in the classroom. I strongly encourage you to foster a prayerful environment at home as regular prayer helps children develop a deeper understanding of their faith and fosters a safe haven for them to express their thoughts, fears and gratitude.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to prayer, and the beauty of our faith lies in the diversity of prayer practices. You may like to start with exploring traditional prayers by familiarising your children with prayers, such as the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be. These timeless prayers can be recited together as a family, either during mealtimes, or perhaps bedtime. You may like to explore spontaneous prayer, by encouraging your children to express their thoughts and feelings directly to God. This can be done through simple, heartfelt conversations, where your child can share their joys, concerns, or requests. Alternatively, you could engage in contemplative prayer together, where you introduce your children to the practice of silent, reflective prayer. This can be done by setting aside a quiet time for your family to sit in stillness, focusing on their breathing and the presence of God. You may even like to light a candle to engage the senses.

I also encourage you to create a dedicated prayer space in your home, invite your children to decorate and personalise this space, making it a sacred and welcoming place for them to engage in prayer. The key to nurturing a prayerful home is consistency and making prayer a natural part of your family's daily routine.

By modelling a love for prayer and providing your children with various ways to engage in this spiritual practice, you are laying the foundation for a lifelong journey of faith.

Wishing you and your family many blessings as you explore the power of prayer together.

Yours in faith,

Nancy Kubti
