Assistant Principal's Report

Mrs Michelle Rassias

It is hard to believe how quickly first term has flown by. A personal highlight was the Welcome Back BBQ; having the opportunity to reconnect with the community, chatting to students, their siblings and parents and seeing our students dance!

Next term, in May, we will be celebrating Education Week, where we showcase our school and all that Donvale PS has to offer. More information about this week will be sent closer to the date.

Silly Sock Day - Fundraising for ASPECT

Our SRC's have done a wonderful job organising Silly Sock Day for the last day of term. Students & staff raised an amazing $289.20 which will be donated to ASPECT, a not-for-profit organisation supporting children and families with autism.

Child Safe Standards

The Child Safe Standards are compulsory minimum standards for all Victorian schools. They ensure that schools are well prepared to keep children and young people safe and protect them from abuse.

The Child Safe Standards include requirements to keep children, young people and students safe, including:

  • involvement of families and students in child safety
  • schools’ focus on safety for Aboriginal students
  • better management of child abuse risks in online environments
  • governance, systems and processes for keeping students safe.

There are 11 Child Safe Standards. They are:

Standard 1: Culturally Safe Environments

Standard 2: Leadership, governance and culture

Standard 3: Child and student empowerment

Standard 4: Family engagement

Standard 5: Diversity and equity

Standard 6: Suitable staff and volunteers

Standard 7: Child-focused complaints process

Standard 8: Child safety knowledge and awareness

Standard 9: Physical and online environments

Standard 10: Review of child safety practices

Standard 11: Implementation of child safety practices.

As part of the Child Safe Standards, schools must have particular policies in place. These policies need to be regularly reviewed and then endorsed by School Council. Once this occurs, schools are required to share these updates with the school community.

We will update you regularly on school policies and procedures in Snippets.

Bike Safety Champs

It has been so pleasing to see so many of our students ride their bikes to school. These boys are always demonstrating correct bike etiquette, walking their bikes safely on school grounds. Well done boys!
