Foundation: Castle and Sun đ° âď¸Â
Â
Experimenting with geometric shapes, students collaged painted paper to build a castle, inspired by Paul Kleeâs Castle and Sun artworkâď¸
Â
Â
Year 1: Abstract Faces
After looking at examples of cubism and abstract art, particularly the faces by Pablo Picasso, Year 1 students designed and constructed abstract faces from recycled cardboard.
Â
They painted their faces and added patterns and details using paint pens. Fantastic!
Â
Year 2: Pop Art Sunrises
Inspired by the artwork Sunrise (1965) by American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, students illustrated a sunrise/sunset artwork. They included a foreground, middle ground and background in their artworks and used inks to add colour. Finally, they applied âbenday dotsâ that the artist was famous for using a plastic stencil and coloured markers.

Year 3: Cubism Musical Instruments đš đ¸đĽÂ
After looking at the samples of cubism artworks (particularly by Pablo Picasso), Y3 students chose a musical instrument to illustrate. They then âchopped upâ the artwork into shapes which they filled by collaging paper, colouring with textas and painting with watercolours.
