Principal's Report

Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers,

The term is flowing by so quickly, with still lots of fun events just around the corner. Today we have celebrated Harmony Day – this day is about coming together to celebrate the cultural diversity and inclusiveness of Australia which is something we do every day here at Fairvale PS.

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

Although I am still not up to riding my bike, I have visited 2 Nelson and 4/5 Barty this last fortnight.

2 NELSON – On Monday I visited 2N during literacy groups. Children were completing a range of independent activities, supported by Miss Paula, whilst other children read with Miss Nak and Mr Kinniburgh. I managed to listen to quite a few children read and I was super impressed. Some of the activities completed included punctuation, phonemes and identifying noun groups. Great work 2N!

4/5 BARTY – Last Friday morning I visited 4/5B during a literacy lesson. The students have been reading Deborah Kelly’s text ‘The Thing About Oliver’. Today’s task was to write their own paragraph using sections of the success criteria to guide them. I was able to spend a few minutes talking with every student and  I was impressed with their writing and ability to share more about the text and their learning. This week was going to be exciting, as Mrs Buenaventura was going to read the last part of the text. Awesome work 4/5B!

INDUCTION ASSEMBLY

On Friday (Week 6) we held our annual Induction Assembly for our 2024 School Leaders, SRC, House Captains, Vice Captains and Library Monitors. This assembly is always a special one for our families. It was great to see lots of people attending, and special mention to Frankie for attending and having photos with the children.

NAPLAN ONLINE

Today Year 3 and 5 have completed their last NAPLAN assessment for 2024. I want to congratulate all of the children for doing their best over the last fortnight. Special mention to our Year 3 and 5 teachers, and support teachers for preparing the students for the assessment and Mrs Rosic and Ms Batar - Assistant Principals - Curriculum and Instruction, for coordinating the whole process. NAPLAN results will be available later in the year for the school and parents/ carers.

K-6 EASTER HAT PARADE/ EASTER RAFFLE

Our annual K-6 Easter Hat Parade is next Thursday 28 April.  Lots of families have already purchased Easter Raffle tickets. This is great fundraising event for our parent group as well as opportunities for families and friends to win some yummy prizes. We would like each family to sell 12 tickets ($1.00 each OR a booklet for $10.00). We thank Miss Michelle and Miss Samira for coordinating this annual event.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

We expect all children to attend school every day. If your child is away, you will receive an email asking you for an explanation for the absence. You can easily respond to the emails OR you can call the school on (02) 9724 3470 OR fill in one of the ‘student absence notification’ notes that the teacher will give your child when they return to school. Frankie’s sign summarises school attendance perfectly;

Have a great fortnight,

Anthony Pitt
