PREP NEWS

The Fun Week That Was in Prep!

Congratulations to our Student Of The Weeks (Week 8):

Peyton - for his ambition in the classroom, his dedication to completing tasks and adding rich discussions to our learning has inspired us all. Keep up the great work Peyton!

Literacy

Each week our students are introduced to two new sounds. This week we have enjoyed moving onto our Stage 2 sounds and meeting our two new characters from the Little Learners Love Literacy Program – Leo the Lion which helps us remember the /l/ sound and Vicky the vulture helps us remember the /v/ sound. We wonder if students can find objects and things around them that begin with the /l/ and /v/ sound.

Students explored blending sounds in different ways through phonics rotations, which included handwriting, decoding real vs alien words, searching and writing letters we have learnt and sounding out and writing words to match a picture. Students have been ambitious in all their rotations which has been wonderful to see. We are so proud of their dedication and love of learning.

Numeracy

Students have been exploring their counting strategies as previous weeks with the addition of focusing on subitising number 1-6 with a dice, and using our one to one strategies below to correspond to the number rolled by placing eyes on a monster. Students have also been practising recognising and writing worded numbers. We have enjoyed seeing students being able to name the one to one counting strategies and trialling all in different ways.

Incursion; All about Bees!

We are thrilled to share the buzz from our recent incursion hosted by Coastal Nectar, where our Prep students embarked on an extraordinary journey into the fascinating world of bees. Led by the enthusiastic Thomas, our young learners were treated to a captivating experience filled with fun facts and essential insights about these incredible creatures.

Thomas truly ignited our students' curiosity and left them spellbound with his wealth of knowledge about bees. From the importance of pollination to the intricacies of the hive's social structure, our students soaked up every bit of information with enthusiasm and awe.

The energy in the room was palpable as our students actively participated in hands-on activities and interactive discussions. Their excitement was contagious as they absorbed new knowledge about the vital role bees play in our ecosystem.

Not only did our students learn about the significance of bees, but they also gained a deeper appreciation for these remarkable insects. It was heartwarming to see their genuine interest and passion for environmental conservation ignited by this immersive experience.

We are immensely proud of our Prep students for their engagement and eagerness to learn during the Coastal Nectar incursion. This unforgettable experience has undoubtedly enriched their understanding of the natural world and inspired a sense of stewardship for our environment.

A special thank you to Thomas from Coastal Nectar for sharing his expertise and passion with our students. Your dedication to educating and inspiring young minds is truly commendable, and we are grateful for the invaluable impact you've made on our school community.

As we reflect on this remarkable experience, we look forward to continuing to nurture our students' curiosity and love for learning in the days ahead.

Easter Scavenger Hunt with buddies

Our students had an absolute blast during our recent Easter Scavenger Hunt! This delightful event wouldn't have been possible without the fantastic support of our Year 5 buddies, who expertly guided our younger students through the clues and stations. Stations included tasks that students had to complete with their buddies to collect a sticker, specific item to the station and letter to solve a Easter message. Tasks included doing bunny hops through hoops, putting together a jigsaw puzzle and finding a golden egg.

A huge round of applause also goes to our incredible Year 6 students, who demonstrated outstanding leadership skills as they managed each station and organised the setup. Their dedication and enthusiasm ensured that every participant had a fantastic time exploring and enjoying the activities.

Library

Unfortunately we were unable to borrow this week due a library system error. We have encouraged students to discuss with their family about looking into their local library and seeing if they can put the skills we have been learning and practising in our library sessions in a local library. Local libraries are a great way to foster a love of reading - especially having a variety of books. We hope to hear about some fun local library adventures when we return.

Homework

Students will have an Easter activity booklet to enjoy over the Easter holidays. The booklet includes rainbow writing pages for the letters we have so far learnt - which helps continue to solidify their fine motor and handwriting skills. A fun way to engage in the sound knowledge our students have learnt this term, students could have a fun game of I spy with my little eyes something beginning with /m/ etc.

Reminders

  • Term 2 resumes 15th of April.
  • Rolls are marked at 9am - if students arrive after this time please kindly sign your child in at the office.  If your child has an appointment or is unwell - a great way to let your classroom teacher know is by lodging it on Compass. We appreciate your support in the importance of attendance.
