Parent Information about School Behaviour Expectation

Dear Parents and Guardians,

At St Carlo we are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. This year, we have implemented new school values that will guide our students' growth and development. Our core values, including Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible, serve as the foundation for a supportive and nurturing school community.

To further reinforce these principles, we have introduced a Behaviour Expectation Matrix that outlines the expected behaviour for students in various settings within the school. This matrix helps create a shared understanding of our behavioural expectations and promote consistency in our approach to discipline within the classroom and outside in the playground.

If students do not follow these expectation the follow steps are followed by the teacher and students:

Step 1 Reminder: The teacher reminds the student individually of the expected behaviour

Step 2 Warning: The student is given a warning and the teacher restates the expected behaviour.

Step 3 Warning: Teacher restates the expected behaviour. The student moves to the thinking space for five minutes to think about their behaviour.

Step 4 Warning: Teacher restates the expected behaviour. Student moves to the ‘Thinking Space’ and completes a Behaviour Think Sheet. This is sent home for parents  to sign.

We encourage you to familiarise yourselves with these new values and the Behaviour Expectation Matrix, as they will play a crucial role in maintaining a positive learning environment.

Below is an example of what our Behaviour Thinking sheets look like. If your child does receive one of these sheets, we kindly ask you to take some time to have a conversation with your child about the choices they have made and the importance of following our school expectations. Please sign the sheet and send it to school with your child the following school day.

Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a school environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
