PRAYER

Look with favour, Lord,

on your household.

Grant that, though our flesh be

humbled by abstinence from food,

our souls, hungering after you,

may be resplendent in your sight.

                                 Amen

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Catholic Education Week

Congratulations to Carol C whose art work is being exhibited at the Catholic Education Week Visual Arts Exhibition. This exhibition includes art works from schools throughout the Archdiocese of Melbourne, both Primary and Secondary. The exhibition is currently showing at the Catholic Leadership Centre – 576 Victoria Parade East Melbourne until Sunday.

Physical Education

Since the start of the year we have had timetable changes for Physical Education (PE). This has been for two reasons, staff changes and the gymnastics program. Next week PE will again be on Monday as we have our whole school excursion to the Melbourne Flower Show on Thursday. From Term Two PE will be taught on Thursdays.

Family Prayer Night

Prayer is a significant aspect in daily life at St Philip’s. Prayer also promotes an opportunity for us to gather as a community and embrace our Catholic identity. A family prayer evening is scheduled for Wednesday 27 March commencing at 7.00pm. All families are invited.

School Assembly

Everyone is welcome to attend our weekly assembly at 9.00am on Friday and to stay for coffee afterwards.

Please note as the last day of term is Holy Thursday, we will be holding our Holy Week prayer service in lieu of assembly time. All families are welcome to attend the prayer service at 9.00am.

We will gather in the Hall at 12.45 pm for the drawing of the Easter raffle. This will be just prior to the time when all students are dismissed.

STEM: Design and Sustainability

We are very busy in STEM this term with many different projects incorporating ways to reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose.

We are collecting the following items for STEM projects for Term 1 if you are able to assist please.

We would like:

  • Old/scratched CDs and DVDs that are no longer required
  • Empty food tins (no sharp edges please)
  • Outdoor art/decorations that the children can restore and reuse.
  • Any tools, pots, seeds, cuttings etc that will help us to revamp our vegetable patch.

Donations can be left outside the STEM Room. Thank you for your help.

Please remember we are still continuing to collect:

  • bread tags for Transmutation
  • medical foil blister packs for TerraCycle Australia

Collection boxes are in the office.

Thank you all for your help, it's great that we can work together to do our bit for sustainability and the environment.

Introducing Sustainable and SunSmart Sophie!

Our Grade 2/3 students have created this incredible scarecrow to be entered into the Sustainable Scarecrow Competition at the Melbourne Flower and Garden Show next week. Using recycled, reused or repurposed products the children worked hard during STEM lessons and lunchtimes to create our amazing Scarecrow! Not only is she sustainable but we ensured she was sunsmart too, with her hat, sunglasses and long-sleeved shirt! We are all very excited to see the Sustainable Scarecrow Competition on our excursion to the Flower and Garden Show next Thursday. Congratulations Grade 2/3 students on creating Sustainable and SunSmart Sophie, we think she looks amazing! Well done!
