House Athletics Day

Matthew Davey

Our Year 3-6 Athletics Carnival was Wednesday the 20th of March and let’s say this year, it was an interesting one.

This year we travelled to Bill Sewart Athletics Track in East Burwood as our usual venue, Knox, is getting re-surfaced. Students have been practising various track and field events throughout term 1 and got to put their skills to the test in our annual House Championship.

Sometimes in life it doesn’t matter how much time you put into something; things don’t always go to plan. Between the buses arriving late, as well as a little bit of sideways rain, the day certainly presented its challenges on and off the track. I was super impressed with our students’ resilience on the day to put up with the weather conditions and continue to compete with a smile on their face.

We were incredibly lucky to have an enthusiastic and flexible bunch of parent helpers on the day who I would like to thank whole-heartedly, for without helpers, events such as these are simply not possible.

Our parent helpers and staff on the day proved to be miracle workers, as off the back of their efforts to get in and get the job done, our students didn’t miss out on any of their events despite the uncontrollable delays. Days like this make me incredibly proud to be a part of the Park Ridge community and as our school song says, “Parents and teachers work as one, to see that every job gets done”, this phrase couldn’t be truer after the efforts at the 2024 House Athletics.

All students who competed on the day scored points for their house, and in the end the results were as follow:

1st – Lexcen (back-to-back-to-back champs)

2nd – Flintoff

3rd – Border

4th – Curry
