Dear Skye Families,
Welcome back to what promises to be another big term! I trust that the holiday period provided you with some moments of relaxation and quality time with family. As we embark on Term 2, we are excited to present a series of events designed to promote learning and connect our community.
Our Maths Open Afternoon on May 16th is an exciting opportunity for you to experience our approach to Mathematics. At Skye Primary, we strive to make Maths not only educational but also enjoyable and engaging. This term, we are spotlighting how Maths can be a fun and enjoyable challenge. Our activities are designed to promote creativity, encourage risk-taking, and build resilience among students.
During the open afternoon, you will see our "low floor, high ceiling" tasks in action. These tasks are crafted to be accessible to all learners, regardless of their skill level, yet challenging enough to extend those who are ready for more complex problems. This approach ensures that every student can participate actively and feel successful in their learning.
Parents will have the chance to engage with various games and resources that aim to consolidate Maths skills and extend learning at home. It's a perfect setting to discuss with teachers how to support your child's Maths learning in a fun and effective way.
As part of our strategic goal to strengthen our multi-tiered approach to supporting student wellbeing, we are pleased to introduce Courtney Graf as the newest member of our Skye Primary family. Courtney, an experienced Occupational Therapist, will be working with us one day a week. Her role is crucial in supporting our students by enhancing their physical, sensory, cognitive, and motor skills, ensuring they achieve their best educational and developmental outcomes.
Our School Council is eager to incorporate your insights and concerns into their planning and decision-making processes. The next meeting is due in May, and we welcome your contributions. Should you have any thoughts you wish to share, please send them through to skye.ps@education.vic.gov.au with 'FAO School Council' in the subject line.
Have a great fortnight!
Warm regards,
Tim
