ANZAC DAY - Thursday 25th April - PUBLIC holiday. We will be doing a special tribute to our ANZACs in the next week. Keep an eye out!
Literacy: This fortnight in literacy we have started with looking at the story of 'Walk of the Whales' by Nick Bland. We will make predictions, identify the difference between fact and opinion and answer questions before, during and after reading. We have started the term by writing a recount: 'fact or fiction'... keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks in the Grade 3 patch! Can you work out which recounts are fact or fiction?
Numeracy: We have kick started the term with some place value understandings. Grade 3 curriculum guides us to look at numbers up to 10,000 and beyond. The children will regroup, rename and pull numbers apart to understand their values. Along with this, the students have started some problem solving. This week, we have focused on the problem: Mrs Jung won’t give Ms Hamill a block of pineapple chocolate until she guesses the exact coins Mrs Jung has in her pocket. All Mrs Jung has told us is that she has exactly $1.20 in her pocket?
Here is some of the kids in action below, showing their working and collaborating with others.
Inquiry: This term our unit is called 'Blue Marble'. Our learning will be based around what the earths biodiversity looks like, what challenges we are facing in regards to the environment and then focusing on our local fauna and flora. The students will explore what we can do to have a positive effect and focus on the conservation of Australian endangered species. This week we began immersing ourselves in the unit. Check out the link below to some of the videos we watched!
Wellbeing:
During our wellbeing lessons this fortnight we will look at the behaviours of ourselves and others and how that makes people feel. Some behaviours are expected and some are unexpected. We will continue to look at the Zones of Regulation and what we look and feel like in each zone. This will be in their wellbeing books so they can refer to them regularly!
CROSS COUNTRY! Despite the weather in the morning, we were proud to watch the students head out and try their best during the race this Thursday. A thanks to Mr J for organising great events for our kids!
Need our emails again? Here they are! Please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
