From the Head of Boarding

MEBS - A Legacy of Excellence

Dear Boarding Community,

Welcome to the second edition of Boarders' Buzz for 2024 which showcases happenings from Term 1. Once again, the term seems to have flown with MEBS and its Boarders involved in so many aspects of College and Boarding life. Thank you to our Parents/ Carers, students, staff, and College Principals for their support of MEBS. I do wish you all a safe and enjoyable April school holiday break.

Coed Boarding

It was great to see Coeducational Boarding alive and well this term when the boys and girls had serious fun competing in mixed teams of the Inaugural MEBS Netball Tournament. The concept will continue with Touch , AFL , Hockey and Basketball.

Great fun, excellent participation and outstanding effort by all concerned.

Heritage Walk

The Heritage Centre recently invited the Boarders to a "Heritage Walk - back in time" to make the connection with Mount Erin Boarding and all things heritage. The MEBSters were in awe of what was being explained to them. The fact that whilst listening to historical aspects of their schools and their Boarding House, they were sitting in what was one of the two original classrooms that the Sisters of Presentation taught in way back in the 19th Century was not lost on them. In an online world, seeing and touching real-life memorabilia that is now part of their lives is very significant. On behalf of the Mount Erin Boarders, I take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Sue Bradley, Manager of the Heritage Centre, and Presentation Sister Alexis for hosting this wonderful event.

MEBS Dining

We continue to improve our dining experience by menu and dining experience. There is still refurbishment of the walkway/ entrance and washing space to be completed, but the dining room itself is a really nice place to dine, chat, and socialize. The MEBS Dining signature has just been installed which now completes the serving area. The menu blackboard will soon be in place to the left of the microwave ovens.

Farewell to Rice House Coordinator

Friday 12th April will be Michael (Mick) McTaggart's last day as Rice House Coordinator.

On behalf of Mount Erin Boarding, I would like to thank Mick for his hard work over the past 12 months. The Boarders will farewell Mick at Dinner on Thursday night (11th April).

We are sure to see Mick around MEBS at times throughout the remainder of 2024.

MEBS Governance

From 2023 the following Governance hierarchy was implemented to manage Boarding to improve services.  Both Colleges are now Boarding and Day Schools whose Principals have responsibility for Boarding. Mount Erin Boarding is the Boarding Residence for both Colleges. Mount Erin Boarding consists of two Houses - Rice House for Boys and Nagle House for Girls. The Head of Boarding position was changed from Leader of Boarding to Assistant Principal status managing and leading the Boarding programme, and two Coordinators were appointed to lead the Houses and assist with day to day running of Boarding.  The Principals are members of the Management Committee, the Head of Boarding and Principals are members of the Advisory Council which has Parent Representation, and the Principals, the Head of Boarding and the Coordinators are all members of the Executive Operations Committee.
