Welcome to Term Two!
The Year One students have had an excellent start to the term and have settled back in with ease. We have been working hard to use our whole body listening skills and are listening carefully to instructions during learning time. Over the last three weeks, we have been creating new narratives during writing. In mathematics we have been working on addition and doubling.
Inquiry Overview - Term Two
The Inquiry unit for Term Two is 'The Senses'. Throughout this unit students will develop their understanding of different objects, and how they are made of different materials.
They will learn to consider theses objects and materials using thier 5 senses, sight, sound, smell, touch and taste.
Through scientific inquiry, students will investigate how different materials can be changed or combined with other materials in a variety of ways, including by mixing, and learn to use their senses to investigate these changes. Throughout this term students will engage in different scientific experiments and will complete their own science journal to record materials, their observations and outcomes.
This week Mrs Hall led a science session outside. We looked at mentos in cola, mentos in lemonade, and mentos in lemonade and dishwashing detergent. The students predicted what would happen and then watched to see if their hypothesis was proved.
During the coming weeks the students will be completing their own experiments.
Take Home Readers
All Year One students have been given their 'Home Reading Diary' for Term One. Each week, your child will be provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 3-4 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.
Students have taken home their MultiLit ELibrary passwords so they can choose to supplement their take home reader some nights of the week.
Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Friday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Friday.
