Last Friday we had our first House Quiz competition in the JPC during lunchtime. The topic was World Landmarks. It was great to see a mixture of all year levels contributing and getting amongst the House spirit. The Year 7 students certainly held their own with two finishing on the podium. Every second Friday (Week B) we will be holding our quiz competition, so I encourage everyone to get involved and support their House in the process.
Congratulations to our inaugural winners!
1st Place: Daniel Meline (Year 12) - Dwyer 500 Points
2nd Place: Ben Maynard (Year 7) - Dwyer 300 Points
3rd Place: Finn Knowles-Jones (Year 7) - Joyce 100 Points
As outlined in my first communication for the year in mid-January, I highlighted our new uniform additions. These include the below items with the following details. It has been great to see the new formal jacket emerge in the schoolyard.
Formal Jacket
PE Jumper
Please note that this item is intended to replace the current fleece zip-up, which will be phased out in 2024 and should only be worn with the PE uniform.
Year 12 leavers Tops
During an assembly on Tuesday 26 March, we will be acknowledging our Year 12 students by presenting them with their 2024 Leavers Top. The student-designed rugby jumpers have also inspired a new SVC staff rugby jumper.
It has been wonderful to hear so much conversation amongst staff and students about the array of opportunities on offer to our young men. Two ingredients are essential; committed teachers and enthusiastic students, both of which we have in abundance. I would like to take this opportunity to commend all those who have made such a positive contribution and for getting involved. Just to name a few opportunities we have;
If you are currently not involved in something, I strongly encourage you to change your approach for Term 2 and have a go at something different as you never know if you might just enjoy it or find a mate in the process.
The old saying “I’ve finished all my homework” may be the case, however, this cannot be said about study. Homework consists of finishing off class work or completing and submitting an assessment task. Homework is teacher-driven and directly relates to the tasks done during class time. Study is self-driven and tests one’s commitment. Study should and can be achieved every night, even when all tasks are submitted. Study can include;
Students need routine and a structured approach. As a family, discern which time suits you and which location will optimise your time. Doing a bit each night will have huge gains in not only your productivity and results but also your confidence and belief. Lastly, don’t forget to get the balance right. Downtime, family time, part-time employment and sporting commitments also have a place for your ongoing wellbeing.
