Dear Parents,

 

Welcome back everyone, and I hope you had a wonderful break. We are ready to go for what is shaping up to be an extremely action-packed Term 3. On the calendar is our School Concert ‘Musicals’, Choral Festival, Book Week parade and fair, School, District and Western Athletics Carnivals, Check in Assessments for Years 3-6, Year 1 Phonics Screening Check , Parent Teacher Interviews and the Bathurst Eisteddfod. Our school Facebook page and newsletter will have up to date information on the Principal’s page and calendar each week. 

 

We are really looking forward to dazzling you with our 2025 School Concert ‘Musicals’. Our School Concert Tickets went on sale on Monday 21st July at 10am through the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (BMEC) box office or online. 

 

The concerts will be held on Wednesday 6th August. There will be a matinee performance commencing at 11am and an evening performance commencing at 6.30pm. All children in K-6 will perform in both the matinee and evening performances and will not require tickets to the concert. 

 

A note has gone out through the Parent Portal this week to give permission for your child to take part in rehearsals on Tuesday 5th August and the concerts on Wednesday 6th August at the BMEC. All children are required to attend the rehearsals and concerts. We will supply buses for transportation on both days. Please note that both the matinee and evening performances will be videoed and photographed. A video of the concert will be available to be purchased a few weeks after the concert. Photos will be used on social media, the school newsletter, and other promotional material. Please ensure you give permission through Sentral for your child to attend the rehearsal day, matinee and evening performances as well as having media permission. We can’t wait to entertain you!

 

Good luck to our Girls Basketball team and Mrs Francis as they head to Lithgow next Wednesday 30th July to play in the next round of the PSSA Basketball Knockout Competition.

 

In the holidays, lots of work occurred around the school. This included;

*Ramp access to E block at the front of the school 

*A new roof was put on the dental clinic building

*Miss Reedy's classroom had vinyl laid, a kitchenette installed and plumbing and water to the room connected. 

*A new air conditioning unit was placed in Mrs Francis' classroom

*The two demountable buildings were removed 

*A new school sign was placed on the front fence

*Just before the holidays, new signage was put above the front office window.

 

There is more work about to commence including;

*Railings to F block (Lambert Street block) upgraded.

*Air conditioning installed in all of the Stage 3 classrooms, executive room, school canteen and staff workroom

*Scoping for internal and external painting

 

School Canteen

Our School Canteen is planning to continue opening every Friday. At this stage, we are

very short of volunteers, and we can only operate the canteen with volunteer support. If you can volunteer some time on any Friday, please contact the school and leave a message for Mrs Chaffey and she will return your call.

 

School Athletics Carnival

Our School Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday 11th August (Week 4 Term 3). The carnival will be held at Morse Park. 

 

School Concert Information

Our School Concert Tickets went on sale on Monday 21st July at 10am through the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (BMEC) box office or online. Ticket prices are;

Adult - $28

Concession - $23

Child (under 18) - $13

The concerts will be held on Wednesday 6th August. There will be a matinee performance commencing at 11am and an evening performance commencing at 6.30pm. All children in K-6 will perform in both the matinee and evening performances and will not require tickets to the concert. Please mark these dates in your calendar to avoid disappointment.

 

 

Year 1 Phonics Screener Check

Information is available in this edition of the Newsletter regarding the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check that our Year 1 children will be involved in on Tuesday 26th August. The Year 1 Phonics Screening Check is a short state wide assessment that tells teachers how your child is progressing in phonics. This screening check observes how your child can read English words with different letter combinations. Year 1 children will sit with their teacher and will be asked to read 40 words aloud. The assessment takes about 10 minutes. If parents have any questions about the Year 1 Phonics Screener Check, please contact Mrs Goninan.

 

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 Check-in Assessment

The Check-in assessment is an annual online assessment for students in Years 3 to 9 in NSW Public Schools. All students complete a reading test and a numeracy test. Year 6 students also complete a writing task. Children at Bathurst Public School will complete the Check in Assessments during week 6 - Monday 25th August-Friday 29th August. If any parents have any questions about Check-in Assessments, they should contact Mrs Francis (Stage 2 Assistant Principal) or Mr Datt (Stage 3 Assistant Principal).

 

Our 10 Day Term 4 Intensive Swimming Program will occur from Monday 24th November - Friday 5th December at the Manning Aquatic Centre. This program will be open to all children from Kindergarten to Year 6. The children will be taught by qualified Swimming Instructors employed by the Manning Aquatic Centre. Sessions will be 45 minutes long and will run for 10 days between 9.15am. and 2.00pm. Children will be accompanied to and from the pool by school staff. The cost will be $140.00 for the 10-day program, including bus travel, facility entry, and professional instruction. This can be paid through our Sentral Parent Portal or at the front office via cash or EFTPOS. Active Kids and First Lap vouchers are not accepted this year. If you would like your child to attend, please answer the questions through the Sentral Parent Portal. Medical information is not provided or updated through the Portal. Please contact the front office with any medical updates. A deposit of $50 must be paid to secure your child's position in the program by Friday, 26th September. The final balance must be paid by Friday, 7th November. After this date, there will be no refunds. Parents will be informed of the details of their child's classes before the program commences. Parents are asked to contact the school and update their child's medical information closer to the start of the program if necessary.
