Gospel Reading: Luke 10:38–42
"Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, 'Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.' But the Lord answered her, 'Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.'"
Summary:
In this story, Jesus visits the home of Martha and Mary. Martha is busy with many tasks, while Mary chooses to sit and listen to Jesus. When Martha complains, Jesus gently tells her that Mary has chosen what is most important—being close to Him. This moment shows that women were valued by Jesus, not just for serving, but for learning and growing in faith too. Jesus welcomed both sisters with love, showing that His message is for everyone—men and women, busy or still, no matter their role.
Reflection
- How can I make space in my day to sit with Jesus and listen to Him?
- In what ways do I need to remember that Jesus values me and others equally, no matter what we do?
Prayer
Jesus,
Thank You for loving all people and welcoming everyone into Your presence.
Help me to make time to listen to You and trust that I am valued, not for what I do, but for who I am.
Teach me to see others with Your eyes — full of love and respect.
Amen.
