Gospel Reflection
14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Summary
Jesus visits the home of two sisters, Mary and Martha. While Martha is busy preparing and serving, Mary simply sits and listens to Jesus. Martha becomes frustrated, but Jesus gently reminds her that Mary has chosen the better part - being present, listening, and focusing on what truly matters.
Gospel Reading: Luke 10:38–42
Jesus entered a village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to him. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks. She came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to help me.” But the Lord answered, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Reflection
This Gospel invites us to reflect on the pace and priorities of family life. Like Martha, we often find ourselves busy - getting ready for the day, cooking meals, running errands, helping with homework, cleaning up. These things are important. But in the rush, we can sometimes forget to slow down and be present to one another - and to God.
