I can’t believe it’s already Term Three! With only a short term, we’ve got straight into it, in the Science room!
Over the first few weeks, the Grade One and Two students have been learning about weather! They are understanding why we need weather and how we read weather using symbols. They have been really busy working together to make some beautiful cloud and rain decorations for the corridor outside the Science room. They are now in the process of making their own weather chart, to track the weather each day for a month, using the correct symbols.
The Grade Three and Four students are learning about weather patterns, which is really hard to decide if the weather does or doesn’t follow a particular pattern, when you live in Melbourne! They started the term off using their bodies to create soundscape thunderstorm. They then moved onto learning about rain and the positive and negative impact rain can have on the world. They seemed to enjoy getting a bit messy for this one! They made a rain poster, using oil, water and food colouring!
This term the Grade Five and Six students are learning about extreme weather. They started the term off the best way possible, eating chocolate (and learning about Earthquakes)!!! We learnt about the Earth’s crust being made up of tectonic plates and the way the plates shift slowly all the time. We then used a Mars Bar to demonstrate what happens to the Earth’s crust when the plates either transform or convergent boundaries. The outer layer of the Mars Bar represented the Earth’s crust, that way the students could see what actually happens to the earth’s surface from an Earthquake.
