Our Performing Arts program is moving from strength to strength this year. Performing Arts play a vital role in the curriculum, offering students a unique opportunity to express themselves creatively, build confidence, and develop important communication and collaboration skills. Through music, drama, and dance, students can explore different perspectives, cultures, and emotions, enriching their understanding of the world and of themselves. Performing Arts involves high energy, high involvement and most importantly enables our students to be curious, connected and challenged.
Last term and into this term, students have been exploring different performance styles and focusing on the distinct performance techniques and expressive skills associated with that genre. Styles studied included puppetry, improvisation, mime, naturalism, melodrama, and slapstick comedy.
At Greenhills we love to celebrate all things reading. A highlight of this is our dress up parade as part of the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Annual Book Week. This will be held on Wednesday 20th August at 9.15am on the Tigerturf.
The theme for this year is “Book an Adventure”. Time to start thinking about that costume!
Next week we start our “Experience Greenhills” sessions with our 2026 Preps visiting the Italian room. The 2026 preps will also visit our other specialist areas each week over the next month, as we build towards our students starting school next year. We have 66 students enrolled in Prep next year.
On three of the Experience Greenhills dates, we will also be hosting short parent sessions in the multi-purpose room (where TeamKids operate). This will be a GREAT chance to catch up for a chat and find out a little more about our school. The sessions are open to all our parents and carers, not just our Prep 2026 ones!
The session outlines are as follows:
Monday 11th August 2025 “Student Agency” – presented by Principal team. We will share some insights into what Student Agency looks like across our school and the way we enabling our students to develop their learner agency through our High Impact Learner Agency Traits.
Monday 18th August 2024 “Number Fluency” presented by Principal team. We will talk about ways to engage with math’s at home and how we teach math’s through the school.
Monday 25th August 2024 “Reading” presented by Sharon Draper who is one of our Literacy experts. Sharon will talk about literacy at home and how to spark a love of reading.
