Senior Girls Badminton
Student Account by Joys Chui K3
On the 11th of August, the senior girls badminton team went to participate in states for badminton after progressing through the Wyndham division and the Western Metropolitan Region. Up against some fierce competition, we ultimately fell short of making it to the semi finals. Nonetheless, we continued to cheer each other on during our matches and had a great learning experience.

WMR Intermediate Girls Badminton
On Wednesday morning, we; Nannu, Lauren, Namya, Wyn, Sarah, Aadya, Suzanne Cory’s intermediate girls badminton team, made our way to the Altona Badminton Centre. After winning districts (yay!), we had advanced to regionals. As soon as we reached the stadium, nostalgia hit us like a truck as each of us had run laps there at some point in our lives. After a quick 10-minute warm-up, we jumped straight into our matches with our first opponent being: MSA (Maribyrnong Sports Academy).
Although the first round of matches was extremely tough, our team gave it everything and managed to push through the hurdles to reach the next challenge. One of our best players had fractured her foot, so everyone had to step up a rank and compete against stronger opponents. Surprisingly, this didn’t hold us back at all—we had a strong lead in the majority of the following games. Even though we lost our first round, we still had a chance at second place. From then on, it was pretty much smooth sailing… until we had to face MSA again in the finals. Each of us had improved and gained so many more points. In the end, we finished as runners-up, which is a huge achievement!
Finally, the most exciting stage of the day arrived: the trip to McDonald’s (thank you, Mr. Lam!). Overall, the entire team had so much fun and grew closer through the experience.
High School Dance Competition
On Saturday August 2nd, our school’s Bollywood Dance Team showcased their incredible talent and hard work at the highly competitive high school Bollywood dance competition. The event was a spectacular celebration of vibrant choreography, dazzling costumes, and energetic performances from teams across the Melbourne area.
We are proud to announce that our team earned the prestigious award for “Most Entertaining Performance,” a testament to their creativity and stage presence. Additionally, one of our standout performers, Anshika Thakur, received the coveted “Best Female Performer” award, highlighting her exceptional skill and dedication.
Congratulations to the entire Bollywood Dance Team for representing our school with such grace and enthusiasm. Their success is a source of pride for our community, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next!"

Intermediate Girls Tennis
The Intermediate Girls and Boys Tennis teams had an amazing day at Districts, progressing to Regionals after winning almost all of our matches.
At Regionals, both teams had very tough opposition and we all gave it our all to win, though in the end we did not manage to progress to the next level.

House Chess, PESA and DAV Debating Results
To start the term off strong, chess enthusiasts from all the school's houses joined together to compete in a schoolwide chess tournament, where after intense competition, Apollo successfully clinched a win for the house, followed by Blackwood and Rothwell tied for second, and Kororoit in third place. All the houses put forward a tremendous effort and brainpower, and in the end, regardless of who won, this chess tournament displayed just how strong our chess spirit is going this year.
Congratulations to Adiba Khan – PESA State Finals Runner-Up
In the public speaking section, Adiba Khan managed to make it to the Plain English Speaking Competition’s finals, for the first time since 2020. The Plain English Speaking Competition, PESA for short, is an annual competition where contestants must present both prepared and impromptu speeches in front of a panel of judges, where they compete to see who can leave the most lasting impact on the adjudicators. Adiba won two successive rounds, and managed to make it to state finals, which is an incredible achievement, and one that should be celebrated.
Following on from this achievement, we are delighted to share that Adiba Khan was awarded Runner-Up in the Plain English Speaking Award (PESA) State Finals.
Competing against some of Victoria’s most talented young speakers, Adiba delivered with clarity, confidence, and insight, earning second place in this prestigious competition.
It was also a special moment to see Adiba reconnect with 2020 alumna Fatima Arshad, who returned as one of the adjudicators for the event – a wonderful full-circle moment that highlighted the strength of our SCHS community.
Congratulations, Adiba, on this outstanding accomplishment.
Interschool Debating
This year, our school's interschool debating program achieved incredible success. In just one year, our incredibly talented debaters managed to pull 4 teams into regionals from 3 different grades, which is a step up from just one team last year and the one of the highest number of teams attending regionals in the state. Every single member of our debating group put their heart and soul into preparing for and attending all the debates that were run this year.
As the first regional debates are on Thursday, the 21st of August, we can be sure that we will achieve more debating success as the year progresses. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so unbelievably much for every single debater this year who put time out of their day to help develop our team into what is it now, and a special thanks to Ms Augustou, whose constant effort in helping organise this event leading to this team becoming what it is now.
