Auslan

It’s wonderful to have all our students back and to see those bright, eager faces ready to learn Auslan!
This term, our youngest learners from Prep to Year 2 will dive into some exciting new themes. We’ll be exploring signs related to clothes, everyday amenities, and the world of birds and nature. Getting hands-on with these familiar topics helps build a strong foundation in Auslan. We will also be dedicating some time to fingerspelling, ensuring our little linguists become super-spellers!
For our Years 3 to 6 students, we’re broadening our horizons and delving into more complex topics. Our focus will be on sport, clothes, further signs for amenities, and expanding our vocabulary for birds and nature.
For the Year 5 and 6 students, they will explore important aspects of Deaf Culture and accessibility, including discussions around CaptiViews (closed captions for cinema) and the vital impact of interpreters in various settings. This will provide a deeper understanding of the Deaf community and the role Auslan plays.
A friendly reminder to all students across all year levels: please continue to practice your fingerspelling at home! Consistent practice is key to fluency and confidence.
