SCHOOL FINISHES AT 1PM
THURSDAY 31st JULY
(PARENT/STUDENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES)
SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY
Monday 4th August
Dear Families,
I hope everyone had the opportunity to rest and reset over the term break.
During the break I went away with some friends to Ballarat for a few days. It was cold but a wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends who live in different parts of Victoria.
Family was also a focus over the break so I took my nephew to the MCG to watch his team (Melbourne) beat my team (North Melbourne). We also celebrated my mum and sister's birthdays.
This term is a nine week term and there are still many things to look forward to as a community. One of the most important things is to welcome Miss King back to school on a part time basis for the first few weeks.
During the term I will be attending the National Catholic Education Commission Conference in Cairns.
With the theme ‘hope, anchored in faith’, the conference will focus on the strategic vision and mission of Catholic Education across three key areas – Faith, Excellence and Access. It will feature a broad range of speakers, presentations and workshops focused on Catholic identity, mission and formation; learning and teaching; leadership and governance; parent engagement; parish and community engagement; resourcing and infrastructure; advocacy and marketing; and more.
I am also taking Long Service Leave for the last 3 weeks of this term.
Confirmation Information Night
It was pleasing to see our Confirmation candidates and their parents at our information evening last night.
Thank you to Vicky Pejic (Religious Education Leader) and our Year 6 teachers (Becc Lark and Juliette Foenander) for hosting an engaging, prayerful and informative evening.
These evenings provide our families with an opportunity to stop and reflect on treasured memories together (eg. How did your parents choose your first name? Which person in your life shows gifts of the Holy Spirit?)
Please keep these candidates and their families in your prayers as they continue their preparation to receiving this sacrament.
'Step Into Prep' Sessions
We are looking forward to welcoming 3 and 4 year old children to our 'Step into Prep' sessions this term.
These sessions are for all children in the City of Monash. They can come along and experience some of the wonderful opportunities Holy Family School has to offer.
Please let your local kindergartens, family and friends know about this opportunity.
Year 3 and 4 Performance Tickets
It's not long to go before our magnificent students in Years 3 and 4 present their performance of 'Once Upon A Twist' on Thursday 21st August.
Please log on to Operoo to request your tickets (Year 3 and 4 families only).
Collingwood Players Visit
On Tuesday our Year 1 and 2 students had the opportunity to meet and listen to some of the AFL Collingwood team.
The players shared their experiences of winning and losing and how they cope with these scenarios. They explained to our students that each player on the team supports each other even if another player is having a 'bad' day. Pat Lipinski said that they wrapped their arms around each other to show their support.
The players also spoke about the importance of listening to your coach and the umpires.
Our students then posed questions to each of the players. I think one of the best questions was, 'How did you lose to Fremantle?' and one of our Year One students answered this with, 'It's football mate!' This comment made the players laugh.
Essex Heights Juniors
I was privileged to be invited to the launch of the Essex Heights Juniors 'Indigenous Window Decals' on Saturday 5th July. I was joined by Matt Fregon (Labor Member for the District of Ashwood) and Carina Garland (Federal Member for Chisholm).
It was wonderful to see a couple of our families at this event and join in the celebration with this community. We will continue to investigate ways of strengthening our connections with Essex Heights Juniors.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday
Thank you to our FIRE (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) Carrier students for supporting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday Mass with our Parish.
It was pleasing to watch these students greet parishioners as they arrived at the church and to listen to them read the Acknowledgement of Country and Prayers of the Faithful.
Semester One Parent/Teacher Conferences
The purpose of parent-teacher conferences is to support student learning by fostering communication and collaboration between parents (or guardians) and teachers. Please find the booking link for our Parent/Teacher Conferences to be held on Thursday 31st July below.
