Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people. May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

Welcome back!

I would like to extend a very warm 'welcome back' to all of our families for Term Three. This term promises to be an enjoyable and very productive term for our staff and students. Being a nine-week term, we are committed to maximising the opportunities for learning, wellbeing and engagement for each and every child at our school.

We have several new families joining us at our school this term, and we extend an especially warm welcome to the families and the students who have joined the team at Miners Rest Primary School.

NAPLAN

We are excited to announce that the 2025 NAPLAN results are now available and hard copy reports will be ready for collection by the families of our Year 3 and Year 5 students from tomorrow morning at the Administration Office.

It is an expectation that this important report is collected by a parent/carer, rather than provided to the students.

Families also have the opportunity to access the NAPLAN Parent Portal.

  1. When logging into the Parent Portal on Sentral you will navigate to the student profile on the left-hand side.
  2. On the far right-hand side there will be a tab for NAPLAN, select this tab for 2025 results.
  3. Results are downloadable in PDF form.
  4. See picture to support.

Road Safety

We have had a number of near misses reported to the school over the past two days, with students not using the safety and support of our Crossing Supervisors at the beginning and the end of the day. Our Crossing Supervisors have also expressed concern around the safety of our children at these busy times of the day. If your child walks/scoots/cycles to and from school, to a collection point or home, we ask for your support in reminding them of the importance of using the supervised crossings that we are so very lucky to have.

Thank you.

OSHC Educators Day

This year's theme for OUtside School Hours Care (OSHC) Educators' Day is "Recognition and Appreciation".

OSHC Educators play an important part in our community by providing safe and engaging programs which support families to work or attend to other commitments. We would like to recognise the significant contribution our OSHC educators and program leaders make and thank them for their tirelessly work within our OSHC program and the wider school community.

When you see our OSHC team make sure to let them know how valued they are and your appreciation for all they do.

Open Morning

Book Week celebrations are fast approaching and, as part of the celebrations this year we have a huge day of celebration and culmination planned for Monday, August 25. This very special day will commence with a Book Week Parade at 9:10 am in the Gymnasium - families are very welcome to join us. The parade will then be followed by an Open Invitation to classrooms to join with your child/ren and share in literacy and learning and the showcasing of special work completed as part of the Book Week celebrations.

At the conclusion of the day, students have the opportunity to engage in a schoolwide event - Books to Life with Tony Bones.

Each year Tony & his creative team take their favourite of the short or notable listed "CBCA Picture Book of the Year" titles & transform it into an incredibly entertaining & engaging live stage show, performed to primary school students across Australia.

"Tony Bones" Appleby B. Ed not only creates the show but performs it too, consisting of the highest-level drama, dance, music, visual arts & media arts. As a qualified school drama, dance & English teacher who has adapted & performed 39 CBCA-shortlisted books nationwide, Tony's experience is unparalleled for Australian theatre in education. He ensures strong links to the Australian curriculum throughout the show, Q&A, and the follow-up support material & lesson plans.

We are very excited to be welcoming and engaging with Tony Bones!

2026 Enrolments

Just a reminder to all of our families that enrolments for 2026 are required as soon as possible to ensure strategic workforce planning for next year. If you have a child commencing in Foundation next year, or you know of a family that has a child ready for school in 2026, please reach out and remind them of the importance of enrolling by this Friday, July 25.

All enrolled students for Foundation 2026 will receive an informative outline of the comprehensive Kinder to School Transition program that our school offers, commencing early in Term Four.

Please don't hesitate to contact our friendly Administration Team if you require any further information or support.

Assembly

Assembly will be this Friday at 2:30pm - we love seeing our families at assembly, so please come and join us!

Enjoy the week ahead,

Kylie Nissen.
