From the Classroom - D4 (Ms Mayes)

This week in D4 we have launched a new morning routine, extended our home reading program and completed some impressive holiday recount pieces! I am so proud of the courageous learners in D4 who have returned from their holidays ready to try new things, challenge themselves and support one another.
Writing about the holidays
With so much to share after two weeks away from school, the children returned with lots of news about their holidays. They prepared for writing by talking with partners, listening to one another and drawing some detailed pictures. The D4 writers were very excited to know that their writing was going to feature in the school newsletter!
A New Morning Routine
This term, we are extending the opportunities for children to develop their number sense through a Number of the Day activity each morning. This task helps to develop skills and understanding in numeral recognition, counting, place value and relationships between numbers. A familiar task each morning also helps to provide a predictable start to the day and to help children settle into school.
Home Reading Stage 2
Shiny new decodable books have been sent home with some very excited children this week as we begin this next step in our Home Reading program. These books are new to Foundation this year and form part of the InitiaLit program that has been implemented to support our junior readers. If you have had children in Foundation before, you may notice that these books look a little different!
With such a fantastic start, we are looking forward to a wonderful term ahead!
