Learning Outlook for Weeks 3 & 4

📚 English

Over the past fortnight, students have been exploring how to use plurals correctly, focusing on the rules for adding s, es, and ies. In reading, we have continued developing our prediction skills, using clues from the text and illustrations to support our thinking. Our writing sessions have focused on identifying and using past, present, and future tense words, as well as learning how to write strong introductions for narratives to engage the reader from the very beginning.

🧠 Maths

In Maths, we have built on our subtraction skills by learning and applying new strategies. Students have been practising the jump back strategy, the pump it up strategy, and the jump the difference strategy to solve problems efficiently. We have been using these strategies to solve both number-based and real-life subtraction problems, showing our thinking clearly through open number lines and place value representations.

💬 SEL

Our SEL focus has continued with the Road to Respectful Relationships program. As part of Bully No Way Week, students have been discussing the importance of kindness and thinking about the positive impact of using kind words with others. We have explored how small acts of kindness can help create a more respectful and supportive classroom community.

🌏Humanities

In Humanities, we are continuing our Geography unit by exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives on place and their deep connections to Country. Students have started their individual projects by selecting a country of interest and writing an introduction to their research. We have also begun learning about different climates and vegetation around the world, comparing how these factors influence the way people live in different regions.
