St Joseph's Clubs

Chess Club

Rain, hail or shine, our chess club is on every day!

This week, I had a full house in my office as Alfred (Year 6), our Chess Club leader, organised some very keen chess players. Children from Prep to Year 6 excitedly join Chess Club each day — outside if the sun is shining, or in my office if the weather is temperamental.

It is great to hear the buzz and excitement of the children playing the game and calling out "Checkmate" when they win over their opponent. It is also great to see the older students supporting the younger students as they learn the moves.

"I'm playing with my friend Jimmy because he is very funny and he is good at playing chess."

Felix Prep

"I love chess because it is a really fun game, and you have to use all parts of your brain to beat your opponent. It is a game of strategy."

Maximillian Year 6

"I love when you get to learn chess at St Joseph's."

Alice Prep

"I love playing chess with Alice."

Oliver Prep

"I like to strategise playing the game. It is a really fun game to play."
