SJM is a 'Nut Aware' School

As part of our commitment to student health and safety, we have attached our Anaphylaxis Policy for your review. This policy, along with all other school policies, can be found on our website.
This policy ensures that St. Joseph's Primary School provides, as far as practicable, a safe and supportive environment in which students at risk of anaphylaxis are supported with appropriate and reasonable adjustments to allow for full participation in all school programs and activities.
Please note that St. Joseph's is a nut-aware school. While we do not ban specific food items (e.g., nuts), as this is not considered a practical or effective strategy by the Department of Education or the Royal Children’s Hospital, we do take the following steps to support the safety of our students:
- We avoid the use of nut-based products in school activities and food preparation.
- We request that parents do not send nut-based items to school, where possible.
- We regularly reinforce the important rules of not sharing food and not eating food provided from home by others.
- All staff undertake annual training to maintain their proficiency in anaphylaxis awareness, prevention, and emergency treatment.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
