Structured Literacy- Reading

This year, 34 enthusiastic students from St Joseph’s enrolled in the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge. The completion date is not until Friday, 15th September; however, 11 students have already completed the challenge. Congratulations to the following students who finished the challenge early:
Holly, Frankie, Evelyn, Matilda C, George, Anne, Louis, Chloe, Jack and Lucia.
On the Challenge website, students are encouraged to write a review about the books they have read. Here are a few.
Holly Prep
Daywalt, Drew. The day the crayons quit
★★★★★
This is a really fun book! I like how Duncan uses all the colours in a creative way. It’s good that the crayons can show their feelings in their letters.
Dahl, Roald The BFG
★★★★★
I like how the BFG thinks of so many clever things and how Sophie always has good ideas too. The BFG is really funny. I liked it when he yells “LIAR!” That part made me laugh so much. It was exciting when they made a plan to stop the mean giants!
George Prep
Keller, Laurie Arnie the doughnut
★★★★★
Loved this fun book!
Lucia Year 2
Meadows, Daisy Penny the pony fairy
★★★★★
I was really interested in the bracelet that Rachel and Kirsty was given by the fairy king! There was a bunny, a pony and a guinea pig and more on the bracelet!
Evelyn Year 4
Andelfinger, Nicole. Choosing sides
★★★★★
It was interesting because now Elizabeth and Jessica don't really talk to each other that often, because Jessica is in the unicorn club, and they get into a lot of fights. They eventually solve all the problems by forgiving each other.
Evelyn Year 4
Johnson, Varian. Twins
★★★★★
It was a really good book, but Maureen and Francine did get in a lot of fights, especially when they found out that they were both running for class president but in the end, Maureen did win. It was a very close score, but most importantly, they always figured out the fight and are best friends again FOREVER!
Rafaela Year 2
Lear, Edward The Quangle Wangle's hat
★★★★★
It was epic and I loved reading it. 5
Coco Year 4
Kirby, Katie. The extremely embarrassing life of Lottie Brooks
★★★★★
It was really good. I'm now reading more Lottie books.
Anne Prep
Martin, Ann M. Dawn and the impossible three
★★★★
What I liked about this book is that there were a lot of different characters and that there was a lot of dialogue.
